Here’s a recap of the interesting points and miles news from this week:
Bonus American AAdvantage Miles with Avis: Now through December 31, 2012, American and Avis have teamed up to offer customers 250 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles per day on their next Avis rental up to 1,000 miles per rental. This offer is available at participating Avis airport locations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Middle East, Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. To get the extra miles, just rent with Avis for 1 or more days at participating locations and use coupon number MUAA013. Plus, Avis also offers a 35% discount to American Airlines flyers when they book using AWD #K817179. Bonus points can take 6 to 8 weeks to appear.
United Global and Regional Premier Upgrades Changes: Earlier this week, United announced on MilePoint that newly earned GPUs and RPUs will be valid longer. Starting later this month, when newly earned GPU’s and RPU’s are deposited into an elite member’s account, they will be valid through the end of the following Premier program year instead of just one year from the date of issue. So, for example, all GPU’s and RPU’s earned in 2012 will be valid through January 31, 2014; those earned in 2013 will be valid through January 31, 2015 and so on. Unused GPU’s and RPU’s earned in 2012 will also be extended. For those of you who currently have GPU’s or RPU’s in your account that were earned based on 2012 travel, these will also automatically be extended and will be valid through the end of the next Premier program year (January 31, 2014). This includes GPU’s and RPU’s that are waitlisted or redeposited. Upon redeposit, the extended validity date will be reflected. It’s always nice when an airline makes a change in the customer’s favor.
30% Off at Hilton and up to 5,000 Flying Blue Miles: Hilton has been teaming up with a lot of airlines lately to offer bonus miles based on stays, and the next one up is Flying Blue, the frequent flyer program of Air France/KLM. Now through December 31, 2012, when you book a stay through this promo page, not only will you get a discount of up to 30% off on your Hilton stay, but you’ll earn additional miles when flying Air France and KLM per one-way flight when Flying Blue is selected as your preferred airline for earning Points and Miles:
- 1,500 Miles per seat booked in Economy Class
- 2,000 Miles per seat booked in Premium Economy
- 2,500 Miles per seat booked in Business Class
Just beware that most rates are non-refundable pre-paid, and the promotion only applies in these countries: Algeria, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jersey, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates (Dubai) and the United Kingdom.
35% off Everything at the W Hotel Store: Currently, The W Hotel Store, is offering 35% off on everything in the store including the mattresses which are one of my personal favorite hotel beds. The great thing is the mattress comes with a 10-year warranty, and there is free shipping on the mattresses. You can choose between ordering just a mattress or a mattress with box spring. The store also sells the W Feather Bed for those who really want to invest in a high-end sleeping experience. Besides the beds, you can also buy W Hotel bedding which is featured in the different hotels, apparel, electronics, books, bathroom amenities and travel accessories. As a reminder, if you use your Starwood Amex, you will earn double Starpoints on this purchase. Just enter the code WSTAR35 at check out and the discount will be applied. (Hat Tip- Dan’s Deals)
10% for Hotels.com Bookings: Hotels.com is offering 10% for the first 40,000 people who book now through November 22. This is valid for stays now through April 30th, 2012. To get the discount, enter the promo code OCTOBERUS10 at check-out, and it will tell you whether it is valid for the specific hotel you are interested in. The coupon is valid for a new hotel booking of a participating pre-paid Price Match Guarantee hotel. Package bookings, bookings made through a group travel service or bookings paid directly at the hotel are not eligible. The coupon is not valid for reservations at most major hotel chains such as Starwood, Marriott and Hilton but since most of the chains don’t give you any points for booking through hotels.com or even honor elite status perks on these bookings, you’d be better off booking those with the hotel site directly. New SkyMiles Auction Items Added: SkyMiles Online Auction is Delta’s auction site for Skymiles members that allows them to redeem their miles for unique items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Some of the new items that just went up for bidding include suite tickets and pit passes to the Daytona 500 including having your photo taken with the champion driver in Gatorade victory lane. Another auction allows winners to experience the red-carpet world premiere of Gangster Squad in L.A. Skymiles members can bid to attend the sold-out events at the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival, and meet a TV celebrity chef personality. Other items include orchestra seats to Wicked on Broadway, and the opportunity to meet one of the show’s principal actors during a backstage tour, or the chance to attend the 2012 Miss Universe Competition in Las Vegas, where they’ll meet the reigning titleholder, Leila Lopes, and enjoy the Coronation Ball. Generally these items aren’t the best value, but you only live once so if there’s something you’ve been dreaming of, now’s your chance.
5% off all American Airlines Flights: In case you missed it, earlier this week I wrote about a 5% coupon code that emerged for American Airlines flights now through December 31, 2012. There don’t seem to be any blackouts – neither Thanksgiving nor Christmas and the only conditions are that you must book on AA.com using the code 9612DD in the promo code box at checkout. The entire itinerary must be on American or American Eagle, so no codeshare or partner flights, and the 5% is taken off the base fare, not taxes or other fees. 5% isn’t huge, but every little bit counts, and the promo could be pulled at any moment, so if you have some upcoming travel to plan, better get in on it sooner rather than later. Also, American is offering their double elite qualifying miles promotion, so if you need to book some mileage runs, now would be a good time.
Accorhotels 50% Off Sale: This November, Accorhotels is hosting a 50% off discount at over 2,000 hotels worldwide. To get the full 50% discount, you need to be a member of Accorhotels’ Le Club, otherwise it’s just a 40% discount. If you’re not yet a member you can join here. The booking period starts on November 13 and ends on the 22 for stays between December 15 and February 10, 2013. Just note, the discounted rates must be pre-paid and non-refundable. The promo dates are also extended for the following territories:
-Austria: between 15th December 2012 – 28th February 2013
-Belgium and Luxemburg: between 15th December 2012 – 31st March 2013
-The Netherlands: between 15th December 2012 – 28th March 2013
-Italy: between 15th December 2012 – 31st March 2013
-France: between 15th December 2012 – 31st March 2013
