If I had a browser toolbar for every time an airline wanted to give me free miles for downloading one, I probably wouldn’t have any more space left in my window to see the actual web page.
However, I wanted to put this one out there since I think United miles have some of the best value in the frequent flying world, and you can score 1,000 of them just for downloading United’s Shopping Assistant toolbar and performing one search through it. You don’t even have to make a purchase!
Per the T&C: “To qualify for the initial download 1,000 bonus miles offer, make at least one search or purchase using the Shopping Assistant. Bonus offer is only valid for the initial download and install of the Shopping Assistant. Not valid on subsequent downloads or installs. Offer ends 10/31/12.”
Then, in a few weeks once the miles are credited, you should be able just to uninstall the toolbar and go back to browsing as normal – unless you find that having the Shopping Assistant helps you remember to go through the United shopping portal and earn bonus points and earn multiple miles per dollar you spend on purchases you’d be making online anyway.
I try to keep up on all the spending bonuses the various airline and hotel programs shopping portals to maximize my earnings as those bonuses change all the time, but if you’re just focused on United and need a simple reminder to shop through them, the toolbar can help you. In the meantime, you might as well get 1,000 miles while you try it out!
