Now through October 31 when you register for this promo and fly on any US Airways Shuttle flight (between Boston, New York LGA and Washington National DCA), you will earn double Preferred-qualifying miles.
Registration with the code SH2X is required prior to travel. Travel on any US Airways Shuttle flight September 3 – October 31, 2012 and earn double Preferred-qualifying miles on the US Airways Shuttle segments flown. A US Airways Shuttle segment is any nonstop flight operated between Washington DC (DCA), New York City (LGA) and Boston.
The double miles are only good for the shuttle portions of an itinerary, so customers with itineraries that contain a US Airways Shuttle segment as well as other segments will only receive the bonus for the shuttle segment. For example, if you fly from New York (LGA) to Washington DC (DCA) to Phoenix, you’ll earn the promotional bonus only on the New York (LGA) to Washington, DC (DCA) US Airways Shuttle segment.
The bonus is earned on base flight miles only on flights operated by US Airways Shuttle. Miles bonus will count toward Preferred status. US Airways will award bonus miles one to two weeks after you register and travel has been completed.
Is this a super-fast way to earn miles? No, but hey, at least the bonus miles are Preferred-qualifying, so you’re working your way toward status that much faster. Also, US Airways Shuttle flights award passengers with the mileage flown OR 500 miles per segment, whichever is greater, so each short hop between Boston, New York and Washington DC is earning you the 500 base miles plus 500 bonus Preferred-qualifying miles.
I don’t see mileage run opportunities here because flights between New York and DC and New York and Boston are all going for about $220 roundtrip, you’re basically paying about 9 cents p=er Preferred mile, but if you’re a commuter on the East Coast corridor anyway, consider shifting some of your travel over to US Airways to rack up some extra elite miles this fall.
