**The limited time 30,000 sign-up bonus for the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express cards is now over.**

As I suspected, the 30,000-point bonus for the Starwood Preferred Guest Amex is coming back!

The 30,000-point bonus will officially launch tomorrow, and I’ll have a link to it that I can share with you then. Here are the details so far, though:

  • Bonus: 30,000 points - 10,000 after your first purchase, and an additional 20,000 when you spend $5,000 within 6 months.
  • Promotion Period: August 7 through September 4
  • Receive up to 5 Starpoints for every dollar of eligible spend charged directly with Starwood hotels & resorts – that’s 2 Starpoints per dollar spent on the Card in addition to the Starpoints you get as a Starwood Preferred Guest member.
  • Get 1 Starpoint® for every dollar of eligible purchases.
  • $65 annual fee, waived for the first year.
  • Full review here.

I’ll also be holding a contest to give two lucky readers 30,000 Starwood points each, so stay tuned for details.

For more information on this card and why it’s so valuable, check out my posts on the 30,000 offer from last summer and my post on Maximizing Starwood Preferred Guest Points: Cash and Points Awards.

    Cool thanks.

  • Eric

Will they bump the bonus if I signed up for the Starwood Amex less than 90 days ago? Thanks

  • thepointsguy

Cant hurt to ask! Amex has tightened up on giving different signup bonuses than what you signed up for, but since this is a big advertised promo I bet they’ll give you the 5k

  • sil

The only Biz card I have is Chase Ink Bold. Is it easier or harder to get approved for the SPG Biz card? Only selling stuff on ebay and craiglist for biz.

Thinking about cancelling the Amex Plat as annual fee coming up. Is it best to cancel AMEX Plat before applying for the SPG BIZ card? I already have the SPG Personal so not applying for this .

  • Jason Bell

    VERY exciting news!

  • Grant

I got the SPG personal and biz card last month, are both sign up bonuses increasing or just the personal card? I’ll try to call them and ask them to match the new offer.

  • Geosn00p

Has anyone had any luck getting the business card using your own SSN?

If yes, how does that affect your credit report? Because you use your own SSN will it show up along with your personal credit accounts? TPG can you shed any light on signing up for CCs using your own SSN?

  • PJ

i dont think it matters I have PLATinum GOLD SPG BLUE and AMEX is still trying to stuff me with GOLD business.

if I am not mistaken, the referral bonus from the current memeber for 5K has alwas been on
    my family has 3 cards.

btw, they let you combine points from household members if ALL have same address..

  • Mike

any more word on if AMEX is now churning after 12 months?

Background: I applied for the chase BA cc in May. Hard inquiry in May, received card and started using it in the middle of June but for some reason credit reporting agencies via my cc report show account opening in middle of july (experian and trans union on different days in july, nothing from equifax). On the last day of July I applied for citi amex and visa via the two browser trick. I am waiting to hear back from them (I had to send in proof of change of address, i expect to get approved i have +800 credit score from all three bureaus).

Question: I dont want to miss on this SPG amex 30k bonus. I intend to make that one of my go to cards. I also want to get the chase preferred, ink plus and ink bold and get the 140k points currently available to them. Any suggestions on timeline for applying? I am new to this hobby (but quickly obsessed) I want to get all these great bonuses but not over apply. SOS

PS Should i inform equifax of the BA chase card? it doesnt show up on their report which messes with debt/credit ratio (mine is still very low)

  • Alex L

I will definitely sign up using your link pointsguy. Thanks so much for the update. Do I need to be a registered member to qualify for your promotion?

  • Kris

Thanks TPG…Can I apply for 2 cards , one personal and 1 business and get 2 bonus of 30,000 each and if applied on same day will it it be just one report or will they pull 2 reports ? Thanks again !!

  • TPG Intern Ryan

    It can’t hurt to try!

  • TPG Intern Ryan

The only restriction on the sign up bonus is “Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months.”

  • TPG Intern Ryan

If you are not already a member of Starwood Preferred Guest, you will be enrolled automatically when you apply.

  • PJ

SPG 30K is about twice a year event. Decisions at Amex are independent from those with Citi and Chase. 800+ credit score is very safe . I seriously doubt if you will run into problem. Instaneous approval on line is my guess.

  • Mr. Everyday Dollar

I am planning on staying one night this fall at Iguazu Falls in Argentina, which is a category 5. They are charging $335/night or 16,000 points. I currently have around 700 Starpoints and while I could get the card and the 10,000 points I wouldn’t be able to get the other 20,000 in time. Any suggestions?

  • BRLfly

Take the 10k and use their cash and points system to get a good deal on the hotel (i guess check before to see if cash and points is available and a good deal). I ll defer to the experts though

  • Mike

hmmm…so not 12 months from application, but 12 months from cancellation? Frack.

  • BRLfly

    @TPG Intern Ryan

Any thoughts/suggestions on my sign up schedule for the SPG and the Chase trio?

  • PJ

they turned me down last year but gave the applicant 3K ( 25+3) and the referring member ( me 3K as token of good year.. so on that outing, the family earned 28 + 8 as supposed to be 30 plus 10 referring bonus .

I just completed the spend for the 3rd SPG card in the family. will certainly call them up before the 15K is posted to make 25K ALL IN sign on bonus .

  • TPG Intern Ryan

    12 months from cancellation

  • TPG Intern Ryan

Generally for every completed inquiry, there will be short term 2-5 point hit. That being said if you have over an 800+ credit score, then this should not affect you that much. Personally, I would go for the SPG amex and then one Chase one now such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

If you get approved for both then go for the Ink Bold and and Ink Plus, but know that when it comes to Chase, they usually mandate that credit card applications come at least one month apart and even then you might get declined at first. However, Chase has been very flexible with reconsiderations when you call them at (888) 245-0625.

Greatr news TPG. Can I apply for both a personal and business card on the same day and get both bonuses? I have a separate business/FEIN. Also I got the Amex Business Gold on June 20th during the last 75k offer. Is it too soon to apply for any Amex cards right now? Thanks

  • TPG Intern Ryan

You can absolutely apply for both the personal and business card.

  • TPG Intern Ryan

Yes, you can apply for both the personal and business card.

  • TPG Intern Ryan

Yes! Where would you redeem your 30,000 SPG points at?

  • Marzman77

From what it sounds like from others’ comments, only one Amex pull will show for multiple apps (and it sounds easy to get both approvals). I got a targeted 100K biz platinum offer but would also like to apply for both personal and business Starwood cards. Would I be pushing my luck with 3 applications in a day, or is this something that’s fairly common?

  • John

I signed up for the 25,000 bonus in January and they would not post my points because they said I had a card in 2008.

  • Mrshafrir

I have another AMEX card with a credit limit that I would like to keep (but don’t want the card anymore). Will AMEX roll that credit limit on to a new card or do I have to do an entirely new application? I have a small balance on that card (about 1/6 of the entire limit) that I am paying off in the next three months.

I already have the SPG Amex personal card – got it about a year ago at 10,000 bonus points – Is there a business version, too, and if so does Amex approve personal card holders having both?

  • thepointsguy

Yes the business version is going to increase to 30k as well and you can get the bonus on both

  • timetochurn

I have churned this card several times both business and personal and would like to do so again. Any word on whether the restriction of 12 months is measured from account opening or account closing? I closed both a business and personal 0n 9/14/2011 and 9/18/2011.

  • LivelyFL

I just received AmEx Gold Business a few days ago using my personal SSN (50K points when I spend 2K). I also signed up for AmEx Gold Personal and I received 50K upon sign up in July.

It does show up with you personal credit score/account….but it does not bring it down very much. I know this because today I purchased an automobile and no problem with credit score.

  • John

why not 50k to 100k bonus? amex card is accepted only at big retailers so I don’t use amex cards much for grocery shopping!

  • Robert

i did 2 BM trick for amex PRG and amex GOLD BIZ last year and got both but there still was 2 hard inquiry. anyone know 2BM will work on amex starwood personal and biz?

  • Sricolts

I already have 6 amex cards, Can I switch my Delta amex plat to SPG?. and get 30k bonus. is it possible?

  • Traveler

I think I read some fine print that the business card must only be used for business expenses. Is that a strict rule? Why? Does the credit card company issue a tax document or anything like that?

  • thepointsguy

You can put whatever expense you’d like on a business card

  • thepointsguy

You generally don’t get the bonus when switching cards. I’d just apply for a new one and if you need to, negotiate to close the Delta card in order to get approved for the SPG

  • thepointsguy

I think 3 is rare… but that doesn’t mean impossible. Let us know what happens if you do decide to do it

  • LivelyFL

As usual, TPG is right. :)
I got an extra AmEx Gold Business Gold for my teenager to put her gas expenses on. On the phone, they asked the age of the child and I told’em. It was okay with AmEx.

  • Kellybjordan1

I applied for this card on 6/25 and was approved. Do I have any chance of getting the extra 5k? If so, is there anything specific that I should say when I write them other than just asking for the new bonus?

Really would like the SPG BIZ card but I already have the following Experian Inquiry: All PERSONAL cards within last year-

    Chase 7/14/12
    B of A 7/12/12
    Amex Hilton – 6/15/12
    Chase 5/13/12
    Chase 11/13/11

Should I wait or do you think I have a good chance of approval? Credit score of 779 on Experian
Or would AMEX check Tranunion if i freeze Experian?

  • Mr. Everyday Dollar

I spoke with the Sheraton Iguazu Falls and they do not honor cash and points. Either all cash or all points. I did get a decent discount with AAA though.

  • Paul

I signed up for the card, got approved and now made my first purchases – do you have any idea when my 2 stays/ 5 nights or the 10.000 starpoints will post?
    Thank you!

Any idea when a SPG 30K sign up bonus will be back?

  • thepointsguy

They usually run it every august

  • Brian Medina

Not sure I want to 9+ months to apply, should I just pull the trigger now for the SPG Business? I’m a long time hold of the SPG Personal and am currently running low on SPG points.

  • The Points Guy

I still think 25k is a good bonus, so if you need points quickly, this is probably your quickest and cheapest way to do it
