Hilton and Visa are teaming up to encourage more HHonors members to sign up for their text notifications by giving away 1,000 free points for signing up for this promotion:

“Plus, earn 1,000 HHonors Bonus Points for joining the program, and 4,000 Bonus Points after
spending $100 with your enrolled card at a U.S. hotel or resort within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio**.

  • Receive up to two special offers each week via text message
  • Enroll up to three eligible Visa cards
  • Opt out at any time”

You can use any Visa card to enroll in this promotion- it does not need to be the Hilton Visa. I signed up with my Sapphire Preferred Signature Visa card and received a text shortly after registering with my confirmation code. I needed that to finalize my registration so I wouldn’t recommend using a fake phone number. Per the rules you can opt out at any time and still keep the points. I understand the last thing most people want is to receive junk texts, but I’m going to give them a chance to impress me with exclusive offers (which I’ll obviously report here).

My confirmation text states the 1,000 free points will post within 6 weeks.  This is a great way to keep your Hilton account active and hey- free points are free points!

To opt out at any point just send a text message with the word “STOP” to 43471 or reply to any of their texts with the word “STOP”.

To receive the Hilton HHonors™ mobile messaging enrollment bonus offer, you must register for the program between January 20, 2012 and June 30, 2012. HHonors members who enroll in this program will receive an enrollment bonus of 1,000 HHonors Bonus Points. In addition, HHonors members have the opportunity to earn up to an additional 4,000 HHonors Bonus Points by spending a minimum US $100 using your Hilton HHonors mobile messaging enrolled Visa card at any participating U.S. hotel or resort in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio after enrolling in the program. Please allow up to six weeks from enrolling for the enrollment bonus of 1,000 Bonus Points to appear in your account. Please allow up to six weeks after completing the minimum spend for additional HHonors Bonus Points to appear in your account. Must be a Hilton HHonors member and enter a valid Hilton HHonors account number when enrolling in Hilton HHonors mobile messaging to receive HHonors Bonus Points. Hilton HHonors membership, earning of Points & Miles™ and redemption of points are subject to HHonors Terms and Conditions.
