Discounted merchandise websites are all the rage these days and the loyalty programs are getting in on promoting the top sites. Earlier this week we saw Gilt and Continental/United team up to offer 1,500 miles for a first purchase from the discount site (and 5 miles per dollar on all purchases) and now American Express is offering a $20 statement credit when you make a purchase from discount retailer Vente-Privee.

Simply register here and once you make a purchase $20 will come off your Amex statement. You can even stack this promo with the current Amex Gift Chain promotion, which will give you an additional gift for shopping – multiple dipping at its finest!

I wasn’t impressed with the slection at Vente-Privee (there are only three retailers participating this morning), but they rotate through different vendors so look out for any that might interest you before 12/31/11.

* Terms and conditions: To redeem this offer, you must use any eligible American Express ® Card to make your first purchase at ( through 12/31/2011. An Eligible Card is defined as a valid American Express Credit or Charge Card, in good standing and not in default, issued in the U.S. either by American Express or by a licensed third party bank issuer of American Express-branded Cards. Certain Cards are not deemed Eligible Cards, including American Express Cards issued in the U.S. by Department Stores National Bank, Prepaid Cards (including, without limitation, American Express Gift Cards and Serve cards) and American Express Corporate Cards. If your Card is replaced during the promotional period, please call the customer service number on the back of your Card for assistance. Statement credit will be issued approximately 6-8 weeks after the qualifying purchase is charged to your Card account. Your ability to earn rewards may be based on the amount of your purchase after the statement credit has been applied. Individual rewards program terms and conditions apply. If the purchase(s) is subject to finance charges, finance charges will accrue on the total amount of the purchase(s) prior to the application of the statement credit.

Sorry if this is elsewhere, but is this credit per member or per card?

Well I think they technically want you to sign up for the site only once, but you’d probably be able to use two different emails and two different cards and get two different credits, but I’m not sure. The T &C don’t specifically say one per member

This is a really good deal considering they have quite a few items for under $20.

I don’t see anything in the T&C about a minimum spend. Can I purchase something for less than $20 and still receive a $20 credit?

I made 2 purchases at vente-privee, one under my name on my amex, one under my dh’s name with his amex and received $20 refund from amex for both. Can only receive 1 $20 refund from vente-privee since it is one refund per family. And I received a $5 credit for both orders from The Gift Chain. Today is the last day for The Gift Chain.
