Just a friendly reminder to register your Amex and shop at a small business tomorrow to get a $25 statement credit (see my original post on the deal). You can register multiple cards (even additional cardholders), so the savings can really add up. There’s a liquor store in my neighborhood on the list, so you’ll know where to find me on Saturday ;-)

Registration

Find eligible small businesses (that accept Amex) in your zip code by using this tool

T&C

To be eligible for the Small Business Saturday $25 statement credit, you must (1) register any valid U.S. American Express® Consumer Card or Business Card by clicking on the link at www.facebook.com/shopsmall and follow the directions provided, and (2) use that Card to make a purchase of $25 or more at a small business on November 26, 2011. Registration starts November 1, 2011 and is limited. Limit one statement credit per registered Card, regardless of the number of transactions you make using that Card. Additionally, if you received a $25 statement credit in connection with Small Business Saturday through American Express’ offer on Facebook or Foursquare, you will not be eligible to receive the statement credit through this offer.

Eligible small business merchants are independently owned small businesses located in the United States that accept the American Express Card. Purchases made at large or national chain stores, at franchised business locations and at government agencies are not eligible. Prepaid, Corporate Cards and ExpressPay transactions are not eligible.

If your registered Card is replaced during the promotional period, please call the number on the back of your Card for assistance. Statement credits are generally issued within 5 business days after your qualifying purchase, but may take up to 2 billing cycles to post to your account. Additional terms apply; see Registration Terms & Conditions for details.

do you mean: when I have 10 AMEX cards ( not joking) I can stop at each listed small bunisess to collect goodies up to $25 dollars? I would stop first by filling up my tank getting $25 dollar credit and go to liauor store to buy beers for my whole year supply and stop at Japanese restaurant for Bento lunch special and chinese dinner in the evening …. cool

  • AT

if you have multiple amex card can use you them all in 1 single store and ask them to ring it up separately? Or you have to visit different stores?

  • Aspirant

Does anyone know if the Citi AA AmEx is eligible for this. T&Cs say “an “Eligible Card” is a valid American Express Consumer Card or Business Card from American Express OPEN issued in the U.S. by AXP or by a licensed third party bank issuer of AXP-branded Cards (“Licensed Issuers”)” – would Citibank be a licensed third party bank issuer? I presume so…

  • PJ

no brainer a yes I think ; $25 or more be mindful :)

  • Rudy2828

    It worked for me.

  • Rudy2828

They only let me do two cards using my main email address. I will try an alternate email later (having 4 cards…)

  • Paul

Last year, the T&C said that “Purchases made ONLINE, at large or national chain stores, at franchised business locations and at government agencies are not eligible.” This year, the word “online” doesn’t appear. Do you think this means that internet purchases from small businesses are eligible this year?

  • Aspirant

Now this is probably a dumb question but the retailer doesn’t need to be listed on AmEx’s Facebook tool to be considered a small business, right? As long as they accept AmEx and are independently owned, they’re eligible, no?

  • Anonymous

I have a couple of places on my list (local running stores), but I want to know for sure that it is part of the program before I do it. The reason is that I would prefer to shop at my usual online running stores for better prices and not having to spend the gas, but if I am getting $25 free money = no brainer!
Plus, for those of you with small businesses of your own (and a square device or something similar) – any of you planning purchasing your own products or services? :)

  • Jon

Registered 16 cards (combination of primary and additional cardholders on personal and business accounts) all using the same email address with no problem. My plan is to get $25 gift certificates at one or two nice local restaurants that we frequent. $400 in free dinners out! They will probably look at us a little cross-eyed when we ask them to ring up all these separate charges, but hey it’s $400 in immediate sales for them so I don’t think they will hesitate for long.

  • PJ

i think i have that many cards too close to it :)

  • Buyer Beware

If you read the T&C, only the first 100,000 registered cards were getting the $25 statement credit. Buyer beware. If you are just now registering your card you will most likely not get any kind of benefit from Amex.

  • Fred

silly question, do you need a Facebook acoount to enroll?

  • Anonymous

I’m not seeing that in the expanded T&C at http://www.shopsmall.com/terms which was included in the email response I received after registering my card.
Can you direct us to where you saw that limitation?

CITI amex rep had no idea what I was talking about ; Amazing Citi is sleeping

i did register that card successfully tho..

  • Anonymous

Citi isn’t running this promo- Amex is.

  • PJ

mind you: you can register cards for authorized users but I was told by AMEX rep ONLY one credit one ACCOUNT either done by authorized user or the primary holder.. SO DONT OVER DO IT>>
pls let me know if you find differently

  • PJ

i was told by rep if you see the ” You are ready…” after the response you are ready but only 25 credt for each account NOT for ALL AUTHORIZED USERS

  • Sbbi98

is Prepaid Reloadable Card (ie. PASS from American Express) eligible? thanks

  • Emailbrianjohns

you are correct. I spoke with AmEx about this last promo – small business code differently on charges somehow but neither the retailer nor AmEx could verify which exactly qualify. I’ve used it for local chains as well (stores with say 5 locations but only in one town).

  • Emailbrianjohns

See my reply below…no way to verify but I didn’t have any problem last year

  • Emailbrianjohns

Yes. Been there done that last time and will do again tomorrow! :)

  • AW

at the bottom of the facebook page it says: “The one-time $25 statement credit offer is no longer available. ” But i still can register and receive the confirmation email. I am confused

  • PJ

“You’ve successfully registered your Card ending in 55537″ My goodness it is a Citi AA Anerican Express. Other than that, I have another 6 GENUINE AMEX Genuine accounts to collect on tomorrow.. DO feel a bit shaky after seeing toe 100000 cap, tho I was told by Rep as long as you get email confirmation you are set ! 25 per account $25 ONLY for the primary holder OR a unthorized user

  • Megan

I’m wondering about this too. I registered a week or so ago, but am wondering if now the whole promotion is off? Does anyone else have an idea?

  • Anonymous

If it let you register, I wouldn’t worry about it.

  • BostonBen

Amex is no longer taking new registrations. When I attempted to register this morning, the link took me to a website that stated “Unfortunately the maximum number of Cardmembers have already registered for this offer. ” Bummer.

  • Bob Peoples

go to the american express site. you can register your card# here but will not get an immediate credit at the merchant

  • BostonBen

Bob, I am a bit confused by your reply. I received the message about the promotion being closed after going to the American Express website, specifically the link to register at https://sync.americanexpress.com/sbs2011 The amex home page, americanexpress.com, doesn’t offer a place to register a card for Small Business Saturday either. Which American Express page can I go to and register? If I still can register, I certainly will.

  • Jon

PJ – Here are the terms & conditions:

“To be eligible for the Small Business Saturday $25 statement credit, you must (1) register any valid U.S. American Express® Consumer Card or Business Card by clicking on the link at http://www.facebook.com/shopsmall and follow the directions provided, and (2) use that Card to make a purchase of $25 or more at a small business on November 26, 2011. Registration starts November 1, 2011 and is limited. Limit one statement credit per registered Card, regardless of the number of transactions you make using that Card.”

They specifically say “card” not “card account.” Since every AMEX card has a separate card number, and the terms say one statement credit per “registered card,” there should be no reason to expect we won’t get the $25 credit for all cards registered – whether primary or additional cards.

  • Anonymous

Agree with Jon. Phone reps like to pretend like they know whats going on, but I’d stick to the rules and if you don’t get credit for a card, I’d complain to Amex and just copy and paste the rules.

  • Edward Bertsch

    Registration is full.

you can’t even search for eligible places use anymore?

  • Anonymous

I bought a local grocery store gift card (it’s only got 3 locations) to use later, processed my double digit Am Ex’s at $25 a pop, and got hundreds of dollars in free groceries (which we would have bought anyways). I already have all my confirmation emails, except 1, so I’m assuming that I screwed something up and didn’t register that 1 card. I would’ve thought if I got all the other emails within minutes, I would’ve got that one too, so I bet I just plum forgot to register 1 card.

Great promotion and we didn’t “spend” anymore than we would’ve anyways (because we already buy groceries from there!).

  • AlanS

Most definitely… used eleven (yes, 11) cards today between my wife and I. It was a combination of regular Amex cards, authorized user cards, and Amex branded Citi cards. The haul:

    8 bottles of wine
    1 bottle of tequila
$25 GC for the local pizzeria
$25 GC for the local bagel shop
$25 in gourmet ravioli and sausage
A big container of honey, a hair brush, 1/2 lb of whole black pepper and a jar of blueberry jam from the local organic market
    3 cases of beer

One of my favorite days of the year!

  • AlanS

You can actually use more than one card at the same store… I had my local liquor store run through 4 separate charges…

  • Glen

Whew, I’m tired! With 8 total AMEX cards, I was busy today running around making sure I spent all $200! I didn’t have the time to actually shop today at all locations, so gift cards were the order of the day.

I got three $25 restaurant gift cards, a $25 Shell gift card from a local grocery/deli, 1 theater ticket, lunch with some friends, a $25 bookstore gift certificate, and spent $25 at a small, local store on some stuff I needed for my apartment. A productive day — Thank You AMEX and MOMMY POINTS!

  • PJ

i heard Authorzied user can use it but only $25 per account NOT per user correct.. I hit 6 times only since did not use AU’s card to hit

  • Fred

i used it to buy gift card at local restaurant.
already received this email within an hour of my purchase.

For those of you who got the message, “registration full” here is how to get around it. Link your AMEX card to foursquare, see which businesses are participating in the “special” check in there, click check into special and when the page comes up, click load to card. My husband received an associate card on my business gold account just today and that is how he loaded the promotion on the new card.

  • crystal

I registered myself and BF’s cards a few days ago and got the confirmation emails. He used the card around 1am at a bar and got the confirmation around 2am stating he would receive the statement credit in 3to 5 days. I used my card around 3pm and still have not gotten my confirmation email. Should I worry and just hang on to the receipt and entry email? Or is AMEX just bogged down sending out all these emails?

  • Anonymous

I got my email this evening after 15 minutes!

  • Jon

It may have to do with how the particular merchant processes transactions (e.g. real-time vs. end of the day batch). I used 6 cards at one merchant and still have not gotten confirmation emails. Then I walked across the street and used 10 cards with another merchant and got all 10 email confirmations within minutes.

If the credits don’t show up within a week, it should be easy to solve with one phone call to customer service.

    Hi All,
I read all of the comments and I used 9 AMEX cards on Saturday night with a big liquor hall. I used 7 real AMEX cards, 1 fidelity AMEX and 1 CITI AMEX. Will I receive the $25 for the Fidelity and CITI AMEX cards?

  • evan

So, Jon, were you able to get a $25 credit for each authorized user?

  • Apydazes

I registered, I shopped, I paid my bill ahead of time leaving the $25.00 balance, and weeks later, never got the credit. I called them today and was told it could take up to 2 billing cycles. WTF? Anyone else going through this?

  • Trrel

I registered, I shopped, I paid my total bill (no credit reflected), and now a second bill in the cycle has arrived and still no credit??? Do I need to contact AM EX directly or the merchant where I spent the $25??
