Register your Amex card here and then shop at a small business on November 26, 2011 and spend $25 or more and you’ll automatically get $25 in statement credit. Pretty simple!
T&C
To be eligible for the Small Business Saturday $25 statement credit, you must (1) register any valid U.S. American Express® Consumer Card or Business Card by clicking on the link at www.facebook.com/shopsmall and follow the directions provided, and (2) use that Card to make a purchase of $25 or more at a small business on November 26, 2011. Registration starts November 1, 2011 and is limited. Limit one statement credit per registered Card, regardless of the number of transactions you make using that Card. Additionally, if you received a $25 statement credit in connection with Small Business Saturday through American Express’ offer on Facebook or Foursquare, you will not be eligible to receive the statement credit through this offer.

Eligible small business merchants are independently owned small businesses located in the United States that accept the American Express Card. Purchases made at large or national chain stores, at franchised business locations and at government agencies are not eligible. Prepaid, Corporate Cards and ExpressPay transactions are not eligible.

If your registered Card is replaced during the promotional period, please call customer service at 800-234-4474 for assistance. Statement credits are generally issued within 5 business days after your qualifying purchase, but may take up to 2 billing cycles to post to your account. Additional terms apply; see Registration Terms & Conditions for details.

sweet deal. i’ve been doing this for a couple of years now and i just registered all my 4 amex cards with them. now to find a small business that does not kick you out for proudly displaying your amex card.

  • Heather ✈

Just registered our 3 AMEX cards. Yep, now we have to find some independently owned small business in our area.

  • Roy

Hi TPG, do you know if I can register all 4 of my AMEX cards and still get $25 x 4?

  • Anonymous

You should be able to- even for additional cardholders!

  • Anonymous

Haha, great, the one Saturday I’m in Canada. I’d love a rain check on this promo :(

  • Everett

Do you know if the Citi AA Amex card counts as an Amex card for this offer? I signed mine up and it said it was all good, but then again this card is through Citi directly and not AMEX, so I get confused by it’s classification. And do you know if we can buy gift cards at these places for $25 and that would still count? (A Roundtable pizza popped up on the retailer list when I put in my zipcode).

  • pianodude

Last year I was able to purchase restaurant gift cards.

  • pianodude

My wife and I just registered a total of 12 Amex cards. We no longer have any Citi Amex cards, but my Penfed Amex was not accepted.

Should make for a fun Saturday of shopping!

  • arglebargle

Oh, thanks! I think I can knock out most of my Christmas shopping for free with this–short list, lots of eligible small businesses with good gifts downtown, and several Amex cards.

Also, apparently some of the restaurants I’ve been going to for a long time take Amex, but I didn’t know!

  • Anonymous

last year they extended this deal so maybe they will do it again.

  • Bohemiana

Thanks! Two cards, one account, maybe a $50 credit. Sweet!

Any easy way to find a small business that accepts AmEx?

  • meee

So can you theoretically charge $1 at a participating merchant and receive a $25 credit for a net gain of $24?

  • Anonymous

    $25 minimum purchase

  • Anonymous

They have a small business tool finder on the site. Otherwise good luck!!

  • MJLouise

I just tried to register more than one card and got the msg:

Oops, our records show that you’ve already registered for this offer. We limit the number of times that a Cardmember can register for each offer.

  • Megan

I’m wondering about the Citi AA Amex card too. And what about the Delta Amex card? Thanks in advance if anyone has insight on this.

  • jon

Just registered 13 AMEX cards successfully. My plan is to go to a few local restaurants we like and buy a bunch of $25 gift cards. Then we’ll have $325 of free dining at places we will go to anyway.

  • Anonymous

I think last time I signed up for this I got a $25 credit even though I didn’t actually buy anything anywhere that day.

  • Pianista

    Yes, last year it worked

  • Pianista

Hm, maybe its time to add some cardholders to my Amex Gold. Do they still give some points for adding an authorized user?

  • L T

Thanks to all, had registered main cards… forgot about AU cards! Had 5… now have 11 registered. It’s going to be a sweet holiday treat… AMEX has been very generous this year! Delta miles, MR points, AU bonuses!

PS: Another idea to spend for those in MA, most liquor stores are small biz’s ;) Stock up on the holiday alcohol!

  • Thomasdean

It appears that there is no restriction on using small internet retailers as well. Can anyone confirm this?

This is what is now showing up on link referenced (www.facebook.com/shopsmall )..at the bottom of the page:
The one-time $25 statement credit offer is no longer available. You can still do your part to support small business. Get involved, spread the word and come out on the big day to shop small and help your community

  • Linda

We’ve had our AMEX cards since 1984 and use it for everything. We got absolutely NO notification from AMEX that there was a $25 statement credit offer in conjunction with Small Business Saturday!!! Only heard about the $25 credit on the news this morning (Nov 26). Now we can’t register b/c this offer is “limited.” What’s up with that? Seems they only publicized this on Facebook and Foursquare (we don’t use either of those). I guess when you spend $3K – $5K per MONTH on an AMEX card, you’re not worthy of a $25 promo offer unless you’re in Facebook??? Thanks, AMEX!

We will (and do) shop small businesses on a weekly basis. But today, we won’t be using our AMEX card. Saves the small business the extra credit card fees. And at least feels like we’re sending a message to AMEX that they shouldn’t ditch segments of their consumer base.

The site says it’s unavailable to register, what;s up with that, I didn’t see any end date just a start date. Also I too was never notified from American Express about this promotion and was told that it is being offered by shopsmall.com only, bad business American Express you will regret this practice with your customers.

I have been a long term customer of American Express, and when I attempted to register for small business Saturday, was told no more registering was allowed for this deal. WHAT A SCAM….Never was notified of a beginning or cut off date. I no longer respect American Express with this kind of tactics to their loyal customers.

It’s only a scam if you don’t read… Direct from AMEX:

When does this offer start? When does it end?
You can enroll your Card from November 1st, 2011- November 26th while enrollment lasts (quantity is limited). You must then spend at least $25 at a participating merchant on Small Business Saturday, November 26th to get the statement credit.

I love American Express, maybe if you learn to read you would have less to complain about! Direct from AMEX:

  • Jim

I received the notification from American Express via email. When I registered my email address with American Express, I said that I would accept email offers from them. Did you? If you did, you may have a legitimate complaint; otherwise, not.

  • Moe Detale

I am not a FB subscriber and choose not to be. So what is AMEX doing for us?

  • Barbara

We did this last year but either didn’t get or missed the notification this year until now. Just went to register and it is “sold out”. Maybe it wouldn’t have been if they had not let people register multiple – up to 12???? really!!!.

  • Jason10170

What’s wrong with you? Are you that stupid to think Amex is going to allow any and every card to receive $25???? Of course they’re going to limit it. They’re not going to give away an unlimited amount of money. Your statement is just ignorant. It took 15 seconds to register your card so you should have not procrastinated!

  • mp

I tried to sign up to and now it is limited??? what kind of campaign is that???

  • Geohorn

Why would I put my Credit card number on Face Book are you crazy!!!!

  • Ali

Very disappointed that we were not able to register our cards…and yet someone registered 13 cards??? Thanks for taking that ability away from us fellow consumer AND Amex.
We did not learn of this offer til this week, from a local business email…not Amex. We are on Facebook and never saw anything there either. We are very much into social networking and Amex did not do a good job servicing those who use their Amex cards for thousands of dollars in purchases.

  • Idiots

Fucking idiots… Of course its going to be “sold out” on the day of the event. Should have registered on the 1st like the majority of us did. If you didn’t get the email, then obviously your computer illiterate or would have ensured that you are receiving promotional offers from Amex.

  • scooter

start paying attention, I didn’t hear about this on FB.

  • David

What a scam! Long time amex customer, unable to register. Good buy amex.

  • Hbjones08

I registered and got confirmation but now can not find list of business!!!

  • Hbjones08

Anyone know how to find list of small business? I was able to access map weeks ago when I registered but now can not?

  • Sammy

    You are a fool

  • Adam

Jim is correct, if you want an email from AMEX you have to opt into email communications (since this is considered marketing and their privacy policy states that you have to opt into receiving those via email). This isn’t a bad thing, you wouldn’t like it if they were spamming you with every offer with no way to opt out of getting those emails. I also saw a notice on my statement, however AMEX puts a lot of things on their small business card statements, so it may not have stood out from the half dozen other offers and notices if I didn’t know about the promotion from last year.

  • Adam

I saw an interview last year promoting this on CNBC. I’m not completely positive on this, but I seem to remember that it was limited to the first million accounts registered. Personally I thought that was more than fair of AMEX, since that does amount to $25 million and I’m pretty sure that the Wal-Marts, Best Buys, Amazon’s, Targets, etc. of the world don’t have 1 million of each door buster item nationwide.

  • Ailene

    inappropriate

  • Psuksu

Totally agree. I have had my card since 1987…heard it on news yesterday and tried to register also. “Sorry, too many people signed up” was the message. And, yes AMEX sends me millions of spam communications regularly, and gosh they forgot to send me this $25 credit message. I am sure the small business owners are ecstatic about that and how it will irritate potential customers that usually hit the big box retailers. And I am just personally thrilled as a 25 year customer. Another pr screw up by our friends at AMEX

  • I agree

Not only inappropriate, but it appears ‘Idiots’ is just that, as he/she does not know the difference between ‘your’ and ‘you’re’.

  • Mel Kleiman

I have 4 AMX card just heard of this yesterday and was not allowed to register. Whats up.

  • Linda

Our cards are already set to receive every possible email marketing offer from AMEX. They sent us nothing about this Small Business Saturday offer.

  • Linda

Wow, no need to get nasty scooter!

  • Amex Lover

I didn’t get any notifications from AMEX but found out from online forums weeks in advanced No facebook account required. Just lke other online deals, if y0u snooze, you lose.

  • Christina

I heard it on the Today Show, rushed out on Saturday and used my card only to find that I couldn’t participate in the scam because I had not registered my card (not what the Amex rep relayed on the television!). Called the company – they are soooooo sorry. Use Visa, folks.

  • Brian

I never got my statement credit. Now AMEX is trying to lie and say that it had ran out when I applied for it on the 1st and got my email confirmation right after the purchase on Nov 26. I’m sorry AMEX. I’m never using your card again.
