Update: Amex now requires RSVP codes and is tracking targeted offers. The current bonus is 25,000 for the Premier Rewards Gold card and $2,000 spent within the first 3 months with the $175 annual fee waived the first year. Click here for a full review of the card.

Offer expired September 8, 2011.

This week I got my Premier Rewards Gold card in the mail and its already paying off in more ways than one.
First off, the $175 fee is waived for the first year. The special sign-up bonus through my site is 15,000 Amex points (if you see most other banners on the internet, including Flyertalk and other blogs- it’s only a 10k offer), plus I added 5 users for free for 50,000 points as described in this post.
I also confirmed this morning, that as a new Premier Rewards Gold card member, I am eligible for bonus ID 5985 6661, which gives me 75,000 total sign-up points instead of the 15,000, after I spend $1,000 within 3 months. Easy. This tip was highlighted in this post and I can confirm it still works as of today

Then, today I read a post on Mommy Points talking about an extra 50,000 points for simply using your card 15 times a month from July-November 2012 (Update: a reader told me its good until November 2012, so it looks like I’ll get 50k points after all!)

Update: This is only for new cardmembers from July 1, 2011 and after.

I called at 8:30am today (Friday August 12) and the same friendly rep who confirmed my bump bonus, confirmed the 50,000 bonus ID 6664. She notated my account so there would be no issues getting the points, even if they don’t post automatically. She seriously could not have been friendlier. My understanding is that this will also work for the regular Gold card, so it can’t hurt to ask- even if you have a Business Gold. Please report for your experience in the comments section so others can learn from your experience.

So, for literally $0 I ended up with 175,000 American Express Membership Rewards points for my Premier Rewards Gold card. Plus, the card itself is pretty awesome. You earn 3x points on airfare (you do not have to book through Amex), 2x on gas and groceries and 1x on everything else. Plus, you get an extra 15,000 points when you hit $30,000 in spend every calendar year.
Have I said how much I love this card yet???

While the 50k Authorized Cardholder deal seems like it may be winding down (Amex is now telling people its only for Argentinian cardholders), the 75k bumped bonus and up to 50k is still active.
125,000 Amex points for a fee-waived Premier Rewards Gold card is still an amazing deal no matter how you look at it!

As always, if you could use my link below when applying for the Premier Rewards card, I’d greatly appreciate it (you need to be logged out of your Amex account before you click the link or else the offer won’t show). Feel free to report your success in the comments section.

Happy Friday!

NOW it is AUGUST too late ? i did not swipe 15 times in July hmmm what do we do ?

  • EricT

This sounds like a great opportunity. I applied and received my SPG Amex card last June. I can’t recall how long one should wait in-between AMEX applications? Do I have a shot (excellent credit) or is AMEX on top of those with multiple cards within a couple months?

  • Chananya

I called in today and they told me that as per their notes this offer ends October 1. so thats actually only 20,000 points for your card – Mr. TPG

  • Hallphilip

Nice. I think I got mine too early but will try to see if I can get in on the action. Happy Friday indeed!

  • Anonymous

I was definitely told July-Nov max 50,000 points

  • Anonymous

You can apply for multiple Amex apps. I got Platinum in March and Premier rewards this month with no problems. Will probably get SPG at 30k as well before thats up Aug 22 since right now I only have Amex charge cards (SPG is credit card)

  • Anonymous

They will give retroactive credit if you did use it 15 times. I say just focus on banking 40k in Aug-Nov!

  • Anonymous

Never hurts to ask! Good luck

  • Jeff

Are there any issues with getting this card if I already have a Platinum? Don’t want to trigger a Financial Review or anything…

  • Anonymous

I had no issues. I got Platinum in April and Premier Rewards in August. Amex knows people want multiple products- I use Platinum for international and Premier Rewards for all domestic. The more property Amex has in your wallet, the better for them

  • EricT

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry, I’m only a couple months into this…..What do you mean by “I only have Amex charge cards (SPG is credit card)”. Does this mean that SPG AMEX card is a different animal than the usual Amex Platinum, Premier, etc…?

Exactly. Amex issues both credit cards (SPG and Delta cards for example) and then their own charge cards. You can have multiple credit and charge cards. So in essence, you should have no problem at all having both a Premier Rewards and SPG card. Just make sure you pay your Premier Rewards balance off in full each month.

Hello, I read you blog everyday. I love it! Keep up the good work.
We have all the Amex cards except a PRG personal for me. I just applied through your link and was instantly approved. Now to get the points bonus bump!
    Thanks

so in the past year i’ve done chase BA, chase sapphire, chase CO, amex plat, citi AA visa & amex, and now amex PRG. what should i keep and cancel?

  • Al

Hi Brian, have you explained the credit score implications if you open so many Amex cards (and Chase I guess) in such a short period of time? And btw, I am not getting the same treatment on the bonus when I called Amex/Chase, I believe it’s because I spend relatively less, would you mind sharing with us (don’t have to be exact) how much you typically spend on each card to get all these royal treatments? I have been following your tips and most of the time, it’s “sorry you are not eligible for this offer.” although my credit is prestine.

  • Vinny

If i got the premier rewards card last year and cancelled earlier this year, will i be able to sign up for it again and get the 75k sign up bonus plus all these other points on offer?

  • Anonymous

I talked about FICO scores here http://thepointsguy.com/2011/01/understanding-how-fico-scores-are-calculated/

These bonuses are targeted towards specific populations of people, so not everyone can get in on each. Also, you may just be getting lazy or annoyed reps. Remember, whenever these deals are posted, they generally get flooded with calls and have to answer the same question a million times. I always try to be SUPER nice and appreciative of everything they do. Don’t sound desperate or greedy- I always mention that I am a proud Amex user and love my Plat/PRG card and “hey can you confirm I’m registered for XYZ promo- love Amex, but I know the promos don’t always post as planned, so I just want to notate the account if you don’t mind”

  • C0ldlimit

Is it too late to sign up for the card? What’s the risk that these promotions expire?

  • Anonymous

Most sign-up bonuses are for new cardmembers, so probably not, though weirder things have happened. If anyone else has experience with this, please feel free to chime in.

  • Anonymous

Its not too late to sign up for the card- I just activated my card yesterday and called today to confirm the promotions and everything was good to go. Theres always a risk things won’t work out as planned, but considering there is no annual fee and a guaranteed 15k bonus plus its an overall good card- the downside isn’t terrible.

  • greek2me

denied twice; told targeted for cards opened after 7/1/11. Wouldn’t add it to my PRG opened in May.

  • http://infamousdx.com infamousdx

You are the man, Brian. First call, denied straight up from a snippy agent.

Second call, got a wonderful woman from AZ who enrolled me easily and even made some small talk as things processed. She said that I’d have to call 6-8 weeks after every 15th purchase of the billing cycle and she notated my account.

    <3 Amex!

  • Vimaury

Brian, I would live to apply through your referral on this page and help you out. However, could you first answer this question? A few months ago I got the Amex Plat bump the bonus to 100k. If I apply now for the Premier, can I also get a 50k bump again? Five referrals for free? Thanks

  • Samss85

Has anyone who got the card before July been successful for the promo? I got shot down over the phone. Sent a secure message and am hoping for better luck.

  • Anonymous

I applied for Plat in April and got the 100k bump bonus added to my account in June.
I applied for Premier Rewards in early August and got the account notated for bumped bonus.

I see no reason why you couldn’t get both, like me as long as you are a first time Premier Rewards card holder.

  • Al

Is there a way to confirm the 5985 and 6664 codes before we sign up? Can I call the Platinum line and ask if I open the PRG card will I get the offers? 15,000 alone points are not that attractive considering once you open this card you will not receive the future promotions… Thanks.

  • Anonymous

You can try but they I doubt they’d be able to confirm a bonus for an account that doesn’t exist. Also, these signup bonuses are for new cards- not upgraded accounts, thats why you have to apply through a link and be logged out of your Amex account.

Honestly, I know its a little scary, but sometimes you just need to take risks- the potential payday is well worth it in my opinion.

  • GLIE

Brian, about to apply for PRG through your link, but wondering if I can also apply for PLAT at the same day? I do not have any charge card from amex at the moment, mostly amex dl, spg and blue
I am also considering the citibank aa business :)

  • Fjr44

The link on your page for the premier rewards card is no longer active. Would like to apply for the 15k bonus the bump for the 75k and other promos…..any thoughts

  • Anonymous

If you apply for both, the second app will most likely be denied because they’ll think its a mistake. Once you call them you can probably have both approved. I had no issues getting approved for both a Platinum and Premier Rewards card (though I did apply 4 months apart)

  • Fjr44

tried to apply for the mommy bonus for my gold business that i received in June. Was told its not for the business card. However they honored the 50k bonus for additional cardholders.

  • Anonymous

Its active, you just need to sign out of your Amex account first or use a different browser

  • Fjr44

    ok the link works. thanks

  • sil

I just called to ask to apply 6664 which MR was going to do it….but when she read the term of AMEX PRG of waived $175, 15k sign in, 15 transaction per month for 10k points for first 5 months of holding card, it was similar to my 5985 for bump of 75k…..I couldn’t do it as I feel like i am double dipping so I asked if I have 5985, i can still apply 6664…she checked and said can’t have multiple offer and the one I have already is the “best offer”

  • Alan Fowler

I’m debating whether to get the Premier Gold in light of my other cards.

Following your great insight, I recently got an AMEX Platinum and a Chase Sapphire Preferred. I’m applying for a Hyatt Visa, which I’ll probably only use for Hyatt stays (unless they run some promos). I’m evaluating a credit card stategy for every day use. I want to maximize AMEX points (primarily for transfers to Delta SkyMiles) and Chase Points for transfers to Hyatt.

I like the idea of getting the AMEX Gold (particularly with the bonuses and the double/ triple points on spending), but then I’m having wondering why I should have the Platinum and its $450 fee.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

  • Anonymous

Update to the post: the promo is good until November 2012 so it looks like its 50k points after all!

  • Anonymous

Drop Platinum and use Sapphire Pref for intl use. Unless you really need the perks, Premier Rewards is much better for every day earning.

  • Anonymous

They’ll also prorate your Platinum yearly fee if you do decide the card is not the right fit for you

  • Anonymous

They are two separate offers. One is to get you to sign up for the card and one is to incentivize you to use it once you have it. Don’t feel bad- trust me, Amex is making money off of your business!

  • C0ldlimit

Does adding my spouse as an authorized user make her ineligible for sign up bonus’ for the same card? I.e. could we both apply and add each other as AUs? Thanks the points guy!

  • Anonymous

Nope. For example, I was an AU on a Platinum card in the past and when I applied for it in April I got the new cardmember and bumped bonus of 100k. You should be good to go!

  • Alan Fowler

    Thanks for the response, TPG.

I definitely like the perks of the AMEX Platinum, particularly club access. (I’m only a Delta Silver.)

Maybe I’ll do this. Get the Premier Reward for every day use. And, get the Chase Freedom, to maximize their rotating categories, which I can transfer to Hyatt. Use Chase Sapphire for int’l use. And, decide whether the club access and other perks of the Plaintinum Card is worth it. Thoughts?

Also, yesterday I applied for the Hyatt Visa. Should I wait any amount of time to apply for the Premier Reward and Chase Freedom?

  • CarolineB

So If I were to sign up should I use the link and then call witht he bonus id’s after I’ve gotten approved?
Ive never had an AmEx card and dont know hoe it all works. These bonuses look too good to pass up though!

  • Anonymous

Correct. Once approved you can call and ask for the bonuses to be added to your account.

  • Tao

so this 6664 is only good for new card members since July 1st. I tried to call them three times by now, always told me that it’s not for members before July.

  • GLIE

Thanks, you think is a good idea to apply for 3 cc (PLT, PRG and AA biz) all at the same day? I read some where thats its better to apply all at the same day to avoid to many inquiry?

  • EricT

Just to confirm what CarolineB asked….We don’t need to receive the card before calling? We can apply, call, and provide name/soc/whatever to get codes applied? And if you get a not-so-friendly rep then try and try again?

  • Anonymous

Unfortunately that seems to be the case for everyone. I updated the post to save people the time of calling if they’ve had the card pre-July 1

  • Federico

You can get 50 extra if you want (for a total of 225k MR)

1). 75k for open Amex Gold Premier ID:5985 (sign up bonus)

2). 10k for each additional AU ID:5721 (sign up AU)

3). 10k for 15 transaction (Up to 50K) ID:6664 (incentivize for use your card)

4). 10k once aditional AU spends $1.000 in 3 months ID:6815 (incentivize for AU use their card)

    It may work right? :-)

  • Anonymous

If you apply on the same day with Amex you’ll only get 1 inquiry instead of 2 and if you apply for citi as well, neither citi or amex will see the other companies inquiry so chances are better of getting approved. So yes, that should work though you’ll probably have to call to get both Amexes approved

  • http://www.leeschneider.com leeschneider

Just out of curiosity, how well do amex memb rewards points transfer to say American or Starwood and at what ratios? I saw that it’s 1000 memb reward points = 330 SPG points. Doesn’t seem so great.

  • Anonymous

It’s raining Amex points!!! Who knows how many you’ll end up with in the end, but it should be very lucrative regardless of what happens.

  • Facebook User

Do I just call after I get the card and give them all these codes?

  • Zagwag

I only have the Platinum and Business Rewards Gold. The rep said the 6664 was only for the Premier Rewards Gold, and he said it was for new cards. He mentioned they’d been getting several calls about the bonus this morning.

I also asked about the promo 5721 for additional card members and was told it was for Argentine cardholders. I offered to ask in Spanish and he laughed but still said no. He said they’d gotten a lot of ccalls about that one.

  • Anonymous

They don’t transfer to AA and I don’t recommend Starwood transfers. You can transfer to BA (often at a significant bonus) and book AA Saaver flights via BA. Check out my series on Membership Rewards for tips on how best to use them: http://thepointsguy.com/2011/04/maximizing-amex-post-2-understanding-membership-rewards/

  • Anonymous

    Yep

  • CarolineB

Yeha, Im also wondering about this. Is it a problem to just call and say I’d like to use a bunch of bonus ID’s and list them off?

  • GLIE

Awesome, thanks for the info. should I look into more cards from different bank? like BoA? for chase, I already did BA and Saphire 2-3 months ago

  • EricT

We don’t need to receive the card before calling with the codes? We can apply, immediately call, and provide name/soc/whatever to get codes applied? And if you get a not-so-friendly rep then try and try again?

  • Anonymous

I’d be a little more tactful. You don’t want them to think you are taking advantage or gaming the system. I’d just call and ask them to confirm Bonus ID XYZ is eligible for your account and ask them to notate it just in case the points don’t post. I did both the bump and 50k bonus with the same friendly rep and she had no issues confirming both. When you get a good rep (which is most of the time) they are usually very eager to please you since charge card holders are premium customers for amex.

  • Anonymous

I called once I got and activated my card so I know that method works. I’m not 100% sure if you can have them added before you get your card- maybe someone else can chime in.

  • Roknroll

Don’t forget to try this one too! It was burried deep in the FlyerTalk thread on the 50k points for adding authorized 5 authorized users. 10k points once an authorized user spends $1,000 in the first 3 months, bonus ID 6815

    http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milesbuzz/1246334-50k-amex-mr-additional-cardholders-20.html#post16906411

  • Heathblizzard

I just got off the phone with MR. They told me that my card was not eligible (I got my card just a few weeks go and am using bonus 5985 for 75,000), but that if I wanted to take advantage, I was welcome to sign up for another Premier Rewards Gold Amex. I was not expecting that.

  • PJ

ALERT: BA points is NOT AA points when you need to book AA flights I was bumped out badly on IAD SJD (Cabo) while plenty seats available for AA i was successful in getting one way back LAX to EWR with 12,000 points Amen!! AA points work well for with Far East partners while BA points are far far off base
same thing to South america I have pretty much determined my BA points fly me coast to coast period anything else is very much waste of time in light of their phone response time

  • PJ

are you saying if i apply today: the most likely chance is 15K + 50K bump plus up to 50K if i swipe 15 times a month? still not bad deal comparing to my new Platinum which can not qualify for the 10 K on 15 monthly use

  • Athan

TPG – link not working above to apply for the card – SOS!

  • Alan Fowler

I have a pending Hyatt Visa Card application. (Called today, again, and still no answer.) Should I hold off on applying for the Premier Rewards until that clears?

  • PJ

now i wish I had more kids and they let me apply with their SS # ; this is what i can work on: me , daughters all excellent credit Wife is only ~740 on sesame ( I can not make it out why ) can the fact she is not a primary holder on any credit card hurt her score? I also discovered paying credit card outstanding balance ASAP instead waiting the auto pay takes over HELP my and my daughter’ score went up more than 10 points from July to Aug update

  • CarolineB

I just called after I was approved and was told by a very friendly rep that I had to call back once I recieved the card int he mail and activated it. Hopefully the Bonus ID’s dont expire soon!

  • Heathblizzard

As I’d just stated moments ago, the CSR actually tried to get me to apply for a second AMEX PRG card account if I wanted this deal, so it doesn’t seem to be aimed at new cardmembers only.

  • Anonymous

BA miles are absolutely not the same, but if you read closely, I said you can use BA for AA SAAVER flights. Any Saaver level AA award can be booked with BA miles, even if it doesn’t show on ba.com

  • Anonymous

If someone were to apply today it would be reasonable to expect 15k signup plus 60k bumped bonus + 50k for using the card 15 times in 5 months = 125,000 points

  • Anonymous

Make sure you are logged out of your Amex account or use a new browser.. its working fine for me

  • Anonymous

Your credit has already been pulled for that card, so applying for another card won’t affect that application

  • Tao

Yes, it worked for me. I reapplied the Premier Gold a few days after I closed the original account and successfully applied the 75k bonus code without an issue. just one data point.

  • Anonymous

Great post, TPG! Has anyone had luck calling today to get these promo codes notated? I called this morning about 10 minutes after being approved, but the CSR said it takes about 24 hours for the application to show up in their system.

Also, is AmEx’s platinum travel service only available for Platinum card holders? I imagine the answer is yes, but was wondering if PRG holders can use these services.

  • EricT

Thanks for doing the leg work. I’m a click from applying, but hesitant because of the codes expiring before I get the card. Wouldn’t really be worth it to me just for a 15k bonus on $1k spend. What to do, what to do.

  • PJ

my current PRG is NOT the first one they targeted me; i cancelled a few times in the past and every other year (roughly) they invited me back last year i thought they were crazy to let me have 50K ..

I would say dont hold bak try it i am telling friends this is a sure win over trading stocks

My daughter just called this AM : ” we might need a new central airconditioner for your grandson.. it probably would run $5K+” just trying to be funny

Granpa said ” no problem i have new AmexPlatinum you can pile on …” have you got the chase cards I applied for you last week ? call them up.. they can fedex over .. in case you need to use my Platinum for all i think the contracotr can allow you to swap out the charges on Platinum into new cards you are going to receive …” ie trying to fill 3 SPEND with one major purchase
hope reader can make out why shuffling the cards around on daily expenditure could be a very fruitful excercise.

  • JOANNE CHUNG

    Hi,

I just got approved for my Premier Rewards card, I am a new card owner and I just called to see if I can get the 75k sign up bonus points. But the respresentative is telling me that bonus id 5985 doesn’t exist. They need a reservation # to honor any promotions. Please help. How can I get my 75k? Also, who should I speak to? Thanks.

  • Anonymous

You aren’t going to end up with only 15k points. Have a little faith!

  • Fjr44

I applied for the premier card this morning and was approved. I tried to call twice to get the 75k and was told that this promotion ended August first! Any thoughts?

  • Anonymous

I think they are getting overwhelmed with panicked calls. I’d relax- wait until the card gets there and then call once it is activated. Several other readers have reported they can’t even see your application for at least 24 hours.

  • Anonymous

I was told this AM it was still valid. I would wait until your card arrives and then discuss it with them.

  • Anonymous

Signup link not working… Is it still valid?

  • Fjr44

    will do. Thanks

  • bsl

Just clicked on your link to sign up and it was not working, can you please verify it.

  • Anonymous

Yes- just log out of your amex account or open a new browser

  • Anonymous

You must log out of your amex account or use a new browser

  • Iahphx

That’s what I was told too this morning. Worth calling again?
I keep chasing these AMEX bonuses (like the additonal card member bonus) and I keep gettign shot down.

  • Jake A

Would love to use your link. however, they are both coming up with error messages sayign they are no longer available….

  • Jake A

BTW – I did log out of my AMEX account. Started a new browser and got the same error message. Then, re0started the computer and had the same response from the AMEX site.

@TPG I was recently denied for the SPG card on 7/25 for too many inquiries and a late payment from a long time ago. I’ve gotten that payment removed from my record since then and I’d really love to get in on both these offers. Should I try again or swallow my pride and wait until the next one to avoid another denial?

  • Anonymous

Weird- it works fine for me on multiple computers and for most other readers. I appreciate you trying to use my link but if it still doesn’t work just go to Amex and try to find the link- I’ll still get credit as long as you clicked on my link first

  • Bsim1925

The 24 hour (or next business day) “account to appear” happend to me too. I recently got the Platinum with the 100K bonus and it took 24 hours for my account to appear in thier database. Once it appeared I was credited and the rep could look my account up via my SS#.

  • Bill

Not sure if I got lucky, but I got in last night having applied for the card on June 30. Maybe since it was one day, they let it slide.

  • BigRedBears

I applied for Platinum and Premier Rewards Gold 1 month apart and was approved for both.

  • Bsim1925

Risk is worth the reward. Applied “blindly” for the PLATINUM three days ago per your recommendation and was given the 100K bonus after my first phone call!

It’s worth it! Go for it!

  • Dewhit6959

There seems to be a lot conflicting answers about this card. I just ended call and was told that the bonuses were not available to someone having an existing AMEX card with membership rewards. This was the answer from 2 Amex rep’s and one membership reward reps. They did offer to take my application and guaranteed approval since I carry Platinum, but don’t need the hassle of opening another card without knowing the bonus is available. They also keep referring to RSVP code’s and say this offer cannot be redeemed thru membership affiliate referrals.

  • Carrolyn

I have an existing rewards gold card and not the premier. Do you know if I would be entitled to the bonus?

  • newby

just applied through your link and was approved in less than 5 seconds. We will see how the bonus codes work in the next few days/weeks. Thanks for putting all of these in the same place , your leg work is greatly appreciated

  • Alex M.

I got the PRG card last week got the 75k bonus, called a few minutes ago and got denied for the 6664 code, she said I wasn’t targeted. I’ll try again in about an hour and try code 6661. Haven’t tried the 50k for adding additional cardholders though.

  • Sergey

A new code (6662) can be applied as well – if each AU spends $1000/3 months you can get 75K MR points. More info is here:

    AMEX PR Gold promo update:
    1) Offer code 5721 (via MR Platinum customer service) was accepted thru 11:59P EST 8/10/11. Not accepted afterward. No exceptions.
    2) Applying 5985 and 6664 codes to account requires 24-48 hours after email receipt of acceptance confirmation in order for new account number to fully post to AMEX systems

Will try in 48 hours through non-Platinum MR line and will post results of 3 offer codes

I went on a credit churn on 7/19 (Citi AA Visa/Amex, Sapphire Pref, and Amex Delta Gold). Sounds like this deal is too good to pass up. Considering I was planning my next couple apps in September (Citi AA business-after waiting 60+ days, Chase Hyatt/Marriott, or whatever hot deals were out at the time), would it still be a good idea to try and apply for this now? My scores are still in the high 700′s after my last apps.

Just asking since I was trying to keep inquiries spread out as much as possible for long term credit applications.

    Great work on the blog!

  • Alex M.

    6661 yes?

  • Aa

    TPG,
I applied for Amex Platinum and asked them to expedite 100K MR points to get BA 50% bonus. Then couple of days ago I noticed that Amex gave another 50K MR points per original promotion. I think they made a mistake, but I’m not complaining.

  • Sergey

    yes, 6661. My mistake.

  • HikerT

Really, how are they making money? Giving everyone 75+50=125K bonus points will cost AMEX roughly $1,250. If folks spend $50K on the card that’s another 50K points (or more) costing AMEX roughly another $500. So they are out roughly $1,750. If they generate 2% in net revenue from the $50K spend that’s only $1000. I’m guessing they might break even after $75-100K of spend. I doubt any of us spend that kind of money on these cards.

If I apply for the card today and get approved, should I wait to have this applied to my account after receiving and activating the card or as long as I’m approved it should be fine? Also, would I be able to do this as well as be able to bump the bonus to 75k? I’m reading for some that it’s an either or but not both for bonuses.

  • Pete

What is the minimum credit score to be approved for either card?

  • Matthew Adams

Applied for the card two nights ago and just called MR this afternoon to get bonuses applied:

5985 – Told I was not eligible as it was for cardmembers prior to 8/1/2011
6661 – Told I was eligible, and that it is for new cardholders after 8/1/2011, and is good for 75K MR points after $1K in spend within 90 days
6664 – Told I was eligible and was added with no problems.

I did not try the 6664 or 5721 (may call back after I get the card to try those out), but am sitting pretty with 125K. Biggest takeaway is that 5985 no longer appears to be working, but 6661 is. Since TPG got 5985 to work today, I wonder if some enterprising individual could get the two to stack…..

  • http://twitter.com/trentswanson Trent Swanson

Apply thru TPG links, receive approval email 3-5 hours later, wait 24-48 for full account details to post into Membership Rewards CSR systems, then call MR number and request codes. No need to wait for card to arrive. Promo to add Authorized Users at risk since applied after 8/10/11, others promo codes should be OK

  • Pete

What is the minimum credit score to qualify for either card?

  • http://twitter.com/wanderinghome wanderinghome

I want to get in on all this MR goodness, but my next full churn date is 8/20 (when I’ll be re-eligible to apply for the AA business card). I just applied for two chase cards last week (to take advantage of the southwest deal, and also to bundle in an extra chase application). I know that AMEX often catches on quickly and re-trains their reps to ask for invitation codes so I’m worried that when I apply for this on the 20th it may be too late to get all these promos.

    Your thoughts?

  • PJ

    SOS
Brian, your link is not working !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just realize the Amex GPR is more than perfect for my duaghter and I can click in application for her of course with her consent

  • Russell Reynoso

So you applied code 6664 but didn’t try it? You just asked to apply each, one by one in the same call?

  • Bscaplan

I just applied through your link, and was approved for the card. I called AMEX to ask about the other deals and they said that I was only eligible for the 15000 points and that no others are associated with your link.
Usually get great service from AMEX, but was not very satisfied this time. (It may have been the agents I was talking with) In fact, since they were telling me I was only eligible for the 15000 points, I cancelled the card.

  • PJ

False alarm was my server sorry

  • JT

I was approved for both Citi AA cards yesterday. I currently have very good credit but how much of a decline in it will I see if I apply for this one as well. Also, I have the Platinum card and the Chase BA card… Would it be wise to cancel those once I receive the Gold Premier and my AA cards? Thanks!!!

  • Mkvizag

I’ve had better luck emailing them and was able to get 75k posted after the first statement showed i met the spending requirement.

  • EricT

This is my concern too. I called AMEX in advance of applying to see about the codes and they said I could only get “solicited” offer codes to me after they ran my name and address to see if I was on any. Has me concerned about actually getting the 75k.

  • GLIE

Just an update, I applied PLT, PRG and Citi AA biz all approved.

now the wait begin, hopefully all code still works by next week

  • SA

That’s what I was just told – I needed an RSVP code. Will try through the online chat thing in a bit. Growl!!

  • Maren

How is AMEX with applying for two cards at the same time? Looking to get SPG too but only want one pull. Is this possible?

  • Anonymous

She was correct- my link is only for 15,000 points. Its the other bonuses that everyone else has been successful adding. if they think you are gaming the system they will shut you down. You need to have been targeted for the other bonuses, but many people, including myself, have had success getting them added to our account.

  • CU

my plan is similar but a bit different. My husband got the premier b/c he gases the cars and buys groceries (where the points are). I use Platinum to book travel for us b/c I like the perks. I got the Sapphire for the points but will use it for international travel due to lack of foreign fees. I just got the Starpoint Amex for everyday use b/c I understand that accrues points the fastest and can transfer with maximum flexibility. Also we’re buying as much as possible on our Amex cards thru the portal for maximum saving, and all cards are registered with US Airways dining program for accrual of points… I learned all this here in the last 2 months! that’s just what fits our needs — YMMV

  • CU

DH called — he had received 15K signup & got 50K for using the card 15 times for a total of 75K points, but they refused to give him the bump-up bonus for 75K as well b/c they said he had already received the first bonus. Rats. Shold we try again?

  • DGuy

Long time reader, i applied for the Amex PRG via your link 4 days ago (for the 15000 points)for both me and my partner. Waiting for the card, and will call in for the 75k bump using 6661.
There seem be conflicting views about the spend associated with that code tho – some say it is $1000 in the first 90 days, others say it is $2000.
Are you able to confirm what the spend requirement for 6661 is ( for the primary card holder)?

  • CU

Because they are different, I assumed these bonus offers would not work with the SPG card — is that right? Thanks TPG — you and your website rock!

  • Caldwell4az

i just applied for the SPG amex….can i apply for this one as well or do i have to wait?

  • GLIE

Those who succeeded, did you call regular PRG customer service or Member Rewards? Please post the phone number :)

    TIA

  • Alex M.

Got denied on the 6661 also, she said it was only for solicited members, I sent a message see if that works.

  • Eric

This all sounds very complicated and very iffy. Will wait for a more clear-cut promo that doesn’t make it seem like I’m trying to get away with something.

  • David

I called a few times and got so many different answers with regard to bonus ID 6664. First rep said it was a mistake. The second one said it was targeted. The third one said that since I did not make 15 transactions in July there is no way I can qualify for the bonus. She also said that it was for the period July-Oct. i.e. 4 months so no way this is broken to 10K each month. I guess YMMV

  • David Z

So grateful for your blog and updates! I have the Premier Gold Rewards card and called earlier to try to apply 6664 and/or 5985 and wasn’t eligible (got the card in March), but the agent was super friendly and gave me 25,000 points. I just called again to ask about 6661 and the rep just gave me another 50,000!! Didn’t even have to add an authorized user! This card has more than paid for itself. I got 50,000 when I signed up and transferred the points to Delta during the 50% bonus so I netted 75,000 SkyMiles then, and have another 75,000 MR points to play with now!

  • Simon

I just called for the 3rd time – no luck, HOWEVER the representative did tell me I was eligible for 25k for first purchase on my Platinum card (although I’d already received 75k).

The promo window for the additional 25k was early Jan-Feb 2011 – promo code 5710. The representative went ahead and manually credited 25k to my MR account – BOOM!

    (Disclaimer: cross-posted on Mommy Points.)

  • CU

Hello TPG: Thanks for all the info! I’m confused tho. This morning I thought I had the bonuses sorted as follows: Bump the Bonus 75K for sign-up Code 5985; Code 6661 add add’l cardholder who spends $1000 within 92 days gives original cardholder 75K points; and Code 6664 which adds 10K a month for 15 transactions for a maximum of 50K over several months. Now you’ve changed Bump up bonus code 5985 to Code 6661 — does this mean it’s no longer an automatic bumpup but you need to do the additional cardholder routine? (Note: this is different than adding the additional cardholder for 10K each which is still another bonus as I understand it). We are planning to try again for the bump-up bonus, and just want to be sure we get the code right. Thanks!

  • CB

    Data Point:
Applied for PRG last month, got the 5985 code applied, then got the 6664 code applied.
It’s still possible to combine them!

  • Adam Rubin

If you already have an AMEX MR card, do the points for new card simply tie into that account or do you get a new MR account setup?

  • Anonymous

Cards will be linked and all points accrue in one MR account

  • Anonymous

Just call the number on that back of your card

  • KellyS

6661 is the bump to 75K..has nothing to do with adding additional user. If you already received a bump to 75K you are not going to get another bump for an additional user spending $1000. This is misinformation. I just spent 30 minutes talking with a rep and had them read me the promotions terms word for word.

  • KellyS

Depends on when you get your card. I got mine 3 months ago…so they said I had two months left once they added the promotion. Someone who got their card last month got 5 months to earn the bonus!

  • abcx

I got 5721 applied on one card so that should net me 50k. I got 6664 applied on two cards that I’ve had pre-July so that should be 100k. I’m now trying 6661 on two cards – I’m not sure if this can be done for 5 add-on cards or not – that would be a cool 375k miles. If any of these work out, I’ll be super happy. If none of them do, I’ll move on. I’m not going to court. Amex has been generous enough as it is.

P.S. – I manage family accounts so that’s how I have multiple cards.

  • Raj

What phone numbers do you guys use to call Amex? Because it seems that all the CSRs keep telling me that I applied through a 15k link, and therefore, the 75k promo cannot be added to my account.

  • Anonymous

im sure they were inundated with calls today. Id wait until you get the cards and let this die down and then ask nicely and that generally works

  • Djanash

Platinum card holders don’t quality? What a bummer!

  • wondering

I’m tempted to sign up but want to clarify: Since I already have an Amex green, I can’t upgrade to Premier Gold and expect these bonuses because they’re restricted to first-time cardholders, which means if I’m aiming for these bonuses I’d need a totally new Amex account in addition to my current one, ending up with two separate Amex accounts. That right? If so, I’m hesitant. It’d mean paying both the green annual fees and the premier gold annual fee (after first year) in addition to having another credit line. Talk me into it though, please?!!! I’m just reluctant to have TWO personal Amex accounts. (Wouldn’t you always just use the Premier Gold card, leaving the green card to collect dust?)

  • cvoice

I thought the 6664 code only applies to cards opened after July 1? Can I ask when you opened those two cards? I had my PRG opened in May and was just wondering if there’s any chance to get the 6664 code applied.

  • scott

    link not working…

  • Matthew Adams

Ack, typo in saying I did not try the 6664. I did and was eligible.

And I just asked to apply each code, all on the same call, in the order I listed.

  • RJ

I just called Amex and was able to use the bonus ID 6661 as well as 6664. Thats 125k MR points for a 5 minute call. I havent even received the card yet however the CSR said that she has put a note on my account and I WILL receive both the bonuses!! Thanks a lot TPG!!

  • Jason

Did you call membership rewards, and also, what did you say to get the code applied?? Also, were you a previous AMEX card holder prior? Thanks, Jason!

  • Gpapadop

I am traveling w/ not easy internet access…Does this work for the Platinum card acquired on 1/11? Anyone?

  • Lefoyerm

How do I know you’re not just saying that so people keep signing up for this bonus? We need more information. When did you sign up for the Gold Card and how many CSRs did you have to talk to? I’ve signed up for Credit Cards based on all this hype and end up not getting the credit card bonus.

  • Anonymous

I’m new with this and need some help!

I have call Amex multiple times regarding the Premier Gold card discussed here and each time when I tell them about the codes (i.e. 6661 and 6664) they say they don’t know anything about them or how to input them. It’s happened 4 times.

What am I doing wrong?? Thanks!

  • EricT

I signed up for the 15k bonus last night and today have been trying to reach a customer service rep to apply the codes, and no one will. Must be solicited, can’t apply to an existing promo sign-up, can’t do anything without the card #, etc… I hope I didn’t waste an app for 15k points and having to now spend $3k. Guess I’ll try again when I get the card, but can’t figure out how some say they just call and magically get all these promos applied with no problems.

  • Facebook User

It didn’t work – I got this message
I appreciate your interest in the bonus ID 5985 offer for 75,000 bonus points.

I would like to inform you that this offer was sent to a limited number of non Cardmembers only by solicitation.

Since your account was not solicited for this offe. I’m afraid we are unable to honor this promotional offer to you.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to assisting you in the future.

  • EricT

I was in your same boat awhile ago. After 4 frustrating calls to AMEX I finally got someone to apply my code (5894 for 75k miles for $500 spend in 3 months). Really is truly amazing the different responses you get from each agent. Reminds me of calling on my cable bill to get the best rate (some want to help you and some want to help their employer). I tried to up the anti and get them to apply the 6664 code as well (10k pts for 15 transactions per month) but she drew the line with that and said she can’t give me both promos. So I plan on calling on that one once I receive the card. So, it is a pain, but persistence with multiple calling can help. And be as friendly as you possibly can. Good luck and keep calling because you can get the promo.

  • RJ

@Lefoyerm, I don’t have any reason to just say that so people keep signing up for this bonus. I am not asking you to click on my link to apply for the card. Its a forum where I am letting people know that this offer is still valid. To answer your question, I applied for the card on 2nd August and got approved on 3rd. I got my card yesterday however, I was able to call the MR customer service even before that and was able to get them successfully apply both these bonus IDs on my account i.e. 6661 as well as 6664. I talked twice to the CSRs, once to get the bonus Id 6661 and then second time to get them to apply 6664.

    Hope this helps you.

  • RJ

    Hey Jason,

I was already an Amex card holder when I applied for Premier Rewards Gold card. I have an Amex Blue Cash Preferred and an Amex Green Corporate card. I just called Amex CSR and asked him to connect me to the MR folks. You just have to be a little nice with them. All I said was that I am a loyal customer for Amex for quite some time and heard that these two bonuses are being offered right now. I asked them to check if I was eligible. The CSR put me on hold for few minutes and then came back and said I was. She notated my account for both the bonuses. I hope this helps. Thanks!

  • Lefoyerm

Thanks RJ. It helps, but I’m still not sure if the codes are still active.

In your original post you stated that you just called (like you called on the 12th). In your second post you stated that you got your card yesterday (the 12th), but called before the card arrived. That makes it seem like that you called before the 12th, which is what people were trying to figure out.

Also, I’m confused whether a person who just applied should wait to receive the card before calling or call at activation.

    Take care,
    Lefoyer

  • RJ

    Hey Lefoyerm,

I called them yesterday afternoon before getting my card yesterday evening.. I hope that explains.. :)

I would say you should wait for your card to arrive. However, in my case, the card delivery was delayed and to make sure that I get the bonus before the offer expires, I went ahead and called them anyways before receiving the card in the mail.

    Thanks, RJ

  • db

Does anyone know how exactly Amex defines a new card member? I have a Blue card that I don’t use but hate to cancel it because it has a huge limit and I don’t want my credit score to drop if I cancel. I also have a Corporate card which I believe is in my employer’s name only….both of our names are on the card but I don’t think my SSN is on it or it shows up on my credit history (but not 100% sure).

I really would like to get the PRG card but only want to do it if I can get a decent bonus, i.e. 75,000 or more. I called Amex twice, the first time they said it the that offer is only available to targeted individuals, the second time they said it is only for new card members. If I cancel my Blue card is there a waiting period until I am considered a new card member? I hope my corporate card doesn’t disqualify me.

TPG – your site is awesome and getting better everyday.

  • TPGFan

Hey guys, I’m debating signing up for this card today…I’m only interested in the card if it is possible to bump it to 75k (offer code 6661)…Judging by the responses, it seems it might be increasingly difficult. Brian, do you think it’s still worth a try (and inquiry) to apply?

  • pete

What phone number did you used?

  • EricT

I kept calling 1-800-AXP-EARN. It took 4 tries even on that number. I tried calling a generic customer service number before and it was even worse. Good luck!

  • Maury

That is good to hear RJ.

  • Jeff

I’ve had a gold card for a long time. If I get this does it replace the gold then or just upgrade it?

  • WJB

Just enrolled 6664…told good for 10k for 15 transactions for first 5 months of membership…

  • Mike

I received my card in April. At that time the sign up bonus for my card was 25K points for $500 spend in the first 3 months which I met. I called just now, and no joy for either of the promo’s. I asked if there were any bonuses available to me. The agent patiently tried several different codes then told me she was adding 50K points to my account! And no additional spend is required for me to keep them. Very glad I came upon this blog!!

  • Con

Thanks TPG – applied for the card through your link. Hopefully, I will be able to take advantage of the bonuses as well! :)

  • Jennifer

Thank you so much for posting the deal. I used your link and apply for it. And I did get approved.
I called the customer service and was told that the codes 6661, 6664 and 5721
are valid; however, they can not be combined. Did I make a mistake? Am I supposed to call 3 times to apply 3 codes?
    Thanks again!

  • LayeredCake

The money you spend and people that put on credit, they use to invest in markets. Don’t forget there are also tons of people that will carry an actual balance. With the high interest rates, they’ll usually break even on those people in a year or 2.

  • Dan

Everyone should confirm via secure messaging what their phone rep tells them. I had a rep tell me that she applied the code to my account, only to find out later that she did the exact opposite. This is the first time that I’ve been outright lied to by a credit card rep. AMEX is becoming hit-or-miss with their service!

  • http://www.bpresley.com Ben

I already have a Gold MR card (rec’d Spring 2010) and want to sign up for the Premier Rewards Gold card. If I went through with this, I really have no reason to keep the gold card and pay the annual fee for a lower card. If I cancel my standard gold card after being approved for the premier rewards, will my credit still show a continuous line of credit through Amex since spring of 2010 or will it show one line being canceled and a new one being opened in August of 2011?

8/14/11: 6664 and 6661 Premium Rewards MR CSR experience
    - I Applied/Accepted for AMEX PR after 8/1 using TPG link (10K after $1K spend)
    - 6661- bumps the 10K points to 75K point (this offer was NOT targeted). Offer classifed as “Better offer from AMEX” (CSR used these words to differentiate from “targeted”)
    - 6661 requires a follow-up call to AMEX MR no earlier than 6 weeks after the$1k spend date is achieved. At that point, the additional 65K (75-10) will be immediately deposited into MR account
    - 6664-(10K bonus MR points for first 15 transactions per months)- NOT Targeted. card must be issued by 10/1/2011. 50K MR point maximum. Promotion ends 12/31/12. Points post automatically 6 weeks after 15th transaction (per period) posts. No follow-up call required.
    -5721: “Targeted” Argentina only

6661 and 6664 NOT eligible for AMEX Platinum Cards. (Exclusive for Premium Rewards Gold cards). No Authorized User promotions currently exist for AMEX Platinum

  • wondering

I’d love to know the answer to this too. Anyone have input?

  • Anonymous

Your Amex account will still be open and you keep the longevity- instead of a gold card, you’ll have premier rewards (which is a much better card overall).

    So, no negative impact.

  • http://www.bpresley.com Ben

Good news. Thanks Brian for your reply.

Quick thought: All the blogs I read post all-day about sign-up bonuses. However, I haven’t seen an article in my searches that talks about tips and timing for canceling cards. Any plan on a post about managing the number of cards you have and what is the best way to get rid of ones you don’t need?

  • Bayguy

I was approved for the card using TPG link. What is the number to call for adding codes?

I would wait until you get your card in a couple days and activate it and then call the number on the back. if they know you havent even gotten your card yet, theyll assume you werent targeted for the promotions. My advice is to wait it out- Friday was a crazy day with people getting denied, but it seems to have gotten better now that the hysteria has hopefully calmed down and the Amex agents are less stressed

  • Anonymous

Thank you! Good luck and keep us updated!

  • Anonymous

Id just have them add one and then call at another time and date to have the other. They are combinable

  • wondering

That seems strange, no? If you close one Amex card after opening another, that’s a different effect on your credit score than simply upgrading an existing card, right? By applying anew, you’re opening a new account, so new line of credit, right?

Applied for the Premier Gold Reward card a few days ago. Was approved. It’s in the mail, and I just dialed the rewards service number and pressed 000 to talk to a real person right away. The first lady gladly gave me the 75k bonus after 1000 dollars spend. I tried for the 15 transactions in a month but she told me it was only for cards BEFORE July 1st, she was helpful but I decided to hang up and try again.

I tried again with the second lady and she said I was eligible for the 15 transactions (for 10,000) per MONTH (not billing cycle) up to 5 months. :)

If you don’t get the answer you’re hoping for the first time it doesn’t hurt to try calling again! I’m very pleased. :)

  • wondering

Congrats. Did you have another Amex? Is this your first? If you already had one, do you plan on keeping multiple Amex cards open? I have a green Amex and I’m considering this great PGR deal but don’t like the idea of having two Amexes or starting another and closing this one. Hit to credit score?

  • Bud Hennekes

I too was just approved (2 days ago) and I just made two calls to receive all my points. :) I have several other American Express cards so I just gave them one of those numbers and they looked me up in the system.

On the first call I was able to get the 75,000 Bonus for 1000 spend. The first lady although helpful, did’t bite on the 15 transaction code, so I just hung up and called again. The next guy put the 15 transaction per month ( according to this rep) on my account.

This link has all the codes: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/dealswelike/2011/08/14/potential-100000-american-express-point-bump/

    Good luck!

Data point: current Platinum card holder (upgraded from regular Gold in May). Applied for and approved for PRG on Sunday.

Called on Monday morning to confirm codes were applied as I am currently travelling and won’t physically receive card for over 2 weeks.

1st call – Called in via MR # (1.800.297.3276) and used Platinum card to authenticate in the IVR. No luck, told codes can’t ever be applied once you’ve applied? Was very polite and thanked CSR for their time.

2nd call – Called in via MR # and did not authenticate in the IVR. Once with a rep I did provide my card number as I explained that I was a long-time card holder and wanted to insure my account was notated with bonus IDs since I wouldn’t be getting the card for a couple weeks. Explained I wanted the PRG for 3x bonus on air travel. Rep was super helpful and notated the account with both 6661 and 6664. Told me it would take 6-8 weeks for points to post once successfully completing the bonus requirements.

I’d say key is politeness, patience and perseverance. Also, for those that are interested I plan to keep both cards for a while and when done with my international travel I will either downgrade or cancel my Platinum card.

QUESTION: Do you know if cancelling original account on AMEX changes the age of account if other (but newer cards) are still open with them?

  • Shqiptari70

I just applied and was approved through your link. Hopefully my call about the bonus ID cange “will be heard”. thanks for your suggestions.

  • Bellagio121

There does not seem to be a valid bonus ID (5721) for signing up additional cardholders for the US. When I called Amex phone number on the back of the card the first time, Membership Rewards said that the bonus code 5721 is for Argentina only. The second time I called, they said that bonus code 5721 is not valid for additional cardholder signup.

  • Bellagio121

I just called Amex MR about the bonus ID 6664. The answer I got about that bonus ID code was:

You have already asked for bonus ID code 5985 on your account. You cannot have another bonus ID applied to your account when you already have the first one. Therefore, your bonus ID 5985 can be your only bonus for your account.

It seems that is a cardholder is one of the first ones in the door for the bonus, you will get it. But when too many people come through that bonus door, Amex MR shuts that door on any future cardholders asking for any bonus.

  • Bellagio121

I called Amex MR three more times and got the same answer from all three different reps:

There can be only one bonus id promotion per card account.

So the idea that one can get several bonus id’s on one account is not working for anyone.
You cannot get both 6661 and 6664 on the same account. You can only get one or the other.

  • cvoice

I just called in this morning and got both 6661 and 6664 applied to the PRG card. I applied for the card just yesterday.

  • Bellagio121

You may have supposedly gotten both 6661 and 6664, but when it comes time to look for your posted points, you most likely will get only one or the other.

  • Bellagio121

Combinable? I called several times and got the same answer after getting bonus id 5985 applied —

Only one promotion per card account.

  • Arods3

Can someone tell me what is the best way to go about purchasing/swiping the card once even if its a penny just to get the 10k points. Would amazon be the best place? What item?

  • http://twitter.com/travelingiraffe Crissy

I applied Sunday, got instant approval. I called today and they told me that only one promotion could be applied. I’ll either try tomorrow or wait until I have the card in had again.

  • cvoice

I specifically confirmed with the rep that they notated both codes.

  • Anonymous

Me too. Bellagio- sounds like you just got a couple of cranky phone agents. Id try getting one bonus ID at a time

  • R-info

Applied for Premier Rewards a week ago. Called MR 800-297-3276. Asked for 6661, she said she noted it in my account and I am eligible. I need to call back in 8 weeks and they will give me the points.

I also asked about 6664 and she said that my card is already set up to receive this (???). She said just do the 15 transactions/month and the points will post in 6-8 weeks. I asked her to note that we had this conversation in my record – but according to her it will post automatically??!?

    Thanks everyone!!

  • Bellagio121

Now I call Amex MR again and this time the excuse is:

These bonuses are for non American Express cardholders who have never had an American Express card before – ever.

Even the 75K signup bonus as well as the 50K for using the card 15 times a month.

It does not seem to matter that I have made over 13 calls to Amex MR now. The answers are a bunch of excuses as to why one cannot get any additional bonuses.

  • Lefoyer

I’ve also tried to add 6664 to my Premier Rewards Gold Card with no success. I’ve called on 4 separate occasions and the reps (although friendly) do not add code 6664. They always respond back with, “Only one promotional code can be added to an account.”

I was accepted for this card last Friday (8/12/2011) and Called on Sunday (6/14/2011) to add 6661, which was added on the first call. I tried Monday and Tuesday to add 6664 but I did not get a CSR who was willing. This is my first AMEX Rewards Card, so I’m a completely new customer. Not sure what else there is to do.

My thinking is that the 6664 code will not be added no matter how many times you call. I’m still happy with the 75k bonus, but the additional 50k would have been awesome.

  • Bellagio121

I called Amex MR again…. and this time they mentioned something more interesting… about blog sites like this one… and they specifically mentioned “thepointsguy”.

They (Amex) are aware of blog sites that report what one can get in these bonus id’s. They are trying to catch those people who are not targeted and specifically exclude them from getting any bonus id’s just because they saw it on a blog site (such as this one). They say sure some slip through the cracks and get the bonus id’s. But they are trying to keep as many of the blog followers from getting these bonus id’s.

Interesting response and just another one of Amex MR’s excuses to me for not allowing any bonus id’s.

  • EricT

I’m with you. Can’t seem to get that 6664 code added on due to “only one promo code on the account”. I can only hope to just keep trying but I’m not sure if there is a magic thing to say to get the rep to oblige. I also had problems getting the 75k bonus added, but was able to after 5 calls. I am very friendly on the phone so I just don’t get it.

  • http://www.ipbrian.com/ IPBrian

Same for me as some of the other recent posters…I activated my PRG card today. First call said I was ineligible for 6661 (needed to be targeted), second call 5 minutes later noted on my account as a better offer and said to call back in if the additional didn’t post and they would credit it immediately. Asked additionally about 6664 and was told only one offer per account.

  • Anonymous

I just received my card today and called in for the 6661 code. After calling 2 additional times, neither rep would add the 6664 code. The last rep, who was very friendly, said that people have been told they’ll receive multiple codes but when the CSRs review the accounts to add points, they’ll only consider 1 sign-up code.

If anybody has successfully applied both codes AND received points, please let us know. Thank.

  • Hopp

Data Point: On saturday I had a Amex Rep make a note to my account that I qualified for the bup to 75,000 bonus points useing code 661. Today, I received my gold card and after activating it I wanted to confirm that I would receive the 75,000 bonus points. I was transferred to Member rewards and was told on the first call that unless I could prove that I received an email or letter I was targeted Iwould not receive the bonus points.

Can someone explain the difference to me between when a customer service rep “notes my account of the code” and when they actually “apply the code”. I was able to get two different CSR’s to “note” my account of the 75k bonus and the 10k per 15 transaction bonus. They said they couldn’t “apply” the promo until I achieved my end of the deal ($500k spend in 3mths for the 75k, and 15 transactions for the 10k per month). They said after I achieve that to call them to manually apply. Will the fact that my account is “noted” mean I am set? Or does it just mean someone “noted” it only for the next CSR to re-evaluate and “nix” it? Thanks

I got the PRG and had the promo 6661 applied successfully. When I tried to get 6664 (15 transactions) applied I was told by the MR rep that I could only apply one promo. I hung and up and tried again a while later to find that the rep had put a note in my account saying i could only have one promo applied! Any suggestions on what I can do to work around this? Would calling the CSR number help? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

I just received this card and tried to get the 75K MR points added and the 50K bonus for 15 uses and was denied for both due to having a previous AmEx card. Is that normal? Thanks.

    TPG:

I was wondering if there are any points bonuses for existing Premier Rewards Gold card members. I have been a member since December 2009 and only got the 15k startup points when I signed up for it.

Please let us know if there are any ways to get points for existing members, either to upgrade or to spend a certain amount (other than the standard 30k dollars for 15k points at year’s end)

  • Anonymous

Technically no, but it never hurts to ask for the same 75k bonus others are getting. The worst they can say is no.

  • Anonymous

No- I got both and I had another charge card. I’d try to just get the 75k bonus code added first.

  • EricT

I was “noted” on my recently activated account of the promo for 75k miles after $500 spend and the one for 10k miles per 15 transactions per month. The reps each told me I would have to call to have the promos manually applied. I’m getting close to my 15 transactions for the month and the rep whom applied that promo said to call after my first 15 transactions to get the 10k points. My fear is that I do that and then when I hit $500 spend they won’t apply that promo (even though my account is “noted” for the promo). Once your account is “noted” is that a guarantee the promo will be applied or can I get in a situation where I only get one of the promos and end up with the lesser since the majority of the CSR’s say “only one promo per account”?

  • Anonymous

Just (8/19/2011) had my account approved and noted for both promos 6661 (75k bonus MR) and 6664 (10k for 15 transactions). Looks like they are still active folks. As always, thanks TPG!!

  • Simon

It seems it’s 75K only for me. After instant approval I called and very friendly CSR applied code 6661. Before I got to ask about other offers T-Mobile dropped the call. I called again without luck. My card arrived today and I called again about offer 6664. CSR told me that since both offer cannot be combined. I don’t know if I should keep calling them. Any advise? I am happy with 75K points though :)

  • StM

Been trying the last couple days to get it applied. Keep getting told it doesn’t “stack” with a 75 or 100K promo 6661 or 6608. Maybe will try back after I have met the spending requirements on the other.

  • Sergey

Can one apply through regular application (for 10K MR points only after first purchase), then spend $1000 and call MR to apply a 6661 code to get extra 65K MR points? If yes, than I can refer my wife for that card and earn 1oK MR points for referral.

FYI — had a friend who applied for it recently and had the request sent to Membership Rewards for consideration in ’7-10 days’

  • Pho Real

Went through the link here, but when called for bonus 6661 and 6664, the rep has no ideas! She reiterates it’s only for 15k.

  • John

A new data point — I called today after receiving my new card. First CSR added 6661 without a fuss and noted the account. Deciding not to push my luck (perhaps a mistake), I called back to inquire about 6664. I was told no that time and the next two times. First no was because the account is already open and it’s for applications only. Second no was for the same reason and because it supposedly is a targeted offer. I was told I could cancel the card and reapply with the code, or simply reapply using the same code. He was not willing to simply add the code to my existing account. My next call was to MR, who told me it was targeted and could only be added online or with an RSVP number I don’t have. So, I should be getting the 75K points, which is still pretty sweet I must say. I may try to call again later in the week (greedy, I know). Now I have to decide whether to apply for the SPG card having just received this one.

  • Brad080283

Received my card yesterday, called and confirmed the 75k bonus #6661 with no problems at all. Waiting to call back tomorrow to confirm #6664. Thanks TPG!

  • Brandon

I called today (8/21) and confirmed #6661 to be 75k bonus for 1k spend on primary card in 3 months and had account noted. I called the number on the card and then was transferred to MR. The person from the regular number seemed reluctant but once transferred over to MR, they were very nice. I plan to try 6664 later and call straight to MR.

  • Brandon

Ok, one more follow-up. Called again and got #6664 applied, 15x a month for 5 months and those 5 months have to occur before 11/2012.

The rep I had this time was extremely nice, so I tried to apply #5721 and can confirm it’s for Argentina only and they are aware that it’s a pretty popular code bouncing around the internet.

  • http://twitter.com/marinagen MG

Just got my Premier Rewards card and can confirm that 6661 for the 75k bump still works as of 8/22/11. I asked about 6664 but was told they only do one promo per card…grrr going to try another rep in a bit!

  • Corey

I received my card today, 08/22/11. I am a first time AmEx cardholder. The first CSR was not helpful at all and said as long as I was eligible, I would receive the points after the requirements were met. The second rep applied code 6661 to my account, read the terms of the bonus, and notated the account. I will try at a later date to add ID 6664.

    Thanks, Brian!

  • http://blog.infomofo.com infomofo

I applied with your link about a week ago, I just got the card today. Before I activated I called the number on the back and they transferred me around a bit, but I eventually got them to note my account with both deal ids. They said I’ll have to call back after my initial 15000 points post and then they can change it over to the 75000 deal, and as for the 6664 deal they said they would note my account with it but couldn’t guarantee that I would get it? I’m crossing my fingers, but so far I think this is looking ok still.

  • Anonymous

Does anyone have a RSPV code to the promo? I’ve called Membership Rewards twice, and both reps stated that the promo 6664 is only by invite thru via mail offer. They both stated I would need a RSVP code to get the bonus. Please respond if you have such info, thanks!

  • SCP

I am a brand new AmEx cardholder. I called and asked for code 6661 and was met with some resistance – but finally the CSR allowed me to have the 75k points. I also asked for 6664 and the rep gave me a long lecture on how this code is targeted and how I was not targeted. But either way, thanks to the points guy for calling out these offers! You convinced me to get the card – and I used your link! :)

  • Dante

I got my card, activated it and called MR. I asked for the 6661 bonus. She put me on hold for about 5 minutes and then came back online and told me I had to spend the $1000, get the miles (6 to 8 weeks later) and then call in and inquire about 6661 again. Should I call back and try to get another rep? Wait till tomorrow?

  • Con

Hello TPG – I received the card yesterday and SM’d AMEX last night to inquire if my card qualifies for bonus code 6661. They asked me to email back after spending $1K in 3 months and they will add the bonus points (and this has been noted on my account). I have not tried bonus code 6664 yet, but will do so soon. Thanks and I will keep you posted…

Regrettably we are unable to extend the 6664 offer to you as this offer is by solicitation only. Please understand that not all offers can be honored for all Cardholders as they may have applicable terms and conditions that do not apply as such.

I understand that this may be disappointing to you; however, you can expect to see various promotions throughout the year for which you may be eligible. Our intent is to provide offers that will appeal to various interests and different types of people.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to assisting you in the future.
    Sincerely,

Just used Code 6661 this morning for a premier rewards gold card successfully. Sent a secure message saying: “I recently received my Premier Rewards Gold card and have decided to make it my primary credit card. However, I was recently made aware that at the time I signed up there was another offer (ID: 6661) that would have made me eligible for 75,000 MR points after spending $1,000. I feel a little short-changed with the 15,000 MR point offer I signed up for. I’ve already exceeded my $1,000 spend and will continue to use this as my primary card. Could you please apply offer code 6661 to my account.
    Thank you so much!”

    Good Luck!

Got my card today. Called Customer Service – got the 75k Sign-Up Bonus. I asked the same representative about the 50k point bonus for using the card 15 times until Nov, and she advised that I can only use one sign-up bonus at a time.

Do you recommend that I call back and try again?

  • AF

Got the card. I’ve spoken to two different CSRs – each one viewed the 15 transactions/ month promotion as a sign-up bonus. In fact, the last one I spoke with didn’t even bother looking it up. Instead, he immediately noted that I received the 75k Bonus and said that I only receive one.

    Should I keep calling?

  • MMM

I just applied for the card last Wednesday, got approved, received and activated the card today. Interesting thing, when I spoke with MR, the CSR told me that I had actually received a 50k bonus for signing up for the card. I used TPG’s link so I was sure I was getting the 15k only, but that was nice to know anyways! She was nice and looked up my account and found that I wasn’t actually targetted for the 75k but understood that I would want to receive the higher bonus. She only had me on hold for a minute while she looked and then bingo! She said as soon as I hit my spend requirement and paid the bill, the extra 25k would post on top of my 50k bonus for 75k total. All it took was 5 minutes and 6661 worked like a charm!

Next step, getting bonus 6664 applied tomorrow!

    Thank you all!

Just confirmed this morning with a delightful lady at Amex MR and noted on my account for my New Gold Rewards:
    6661 – $1k spend/90 days/75k points
6664 – 15 transactions/1 month/10k points, max 50k pts, exp 11/2012 (does NOT have to be consecutive months)
    5721 – 10k pts/additional (supplemental) card/1x use within 4 months, exp 12/2011

Keeping fingers crossed that I actually get these points.

  • Maury

TPG and everyone else: After waiting about 10 days I finally received my card and called AMEX MR. The first lady totally blew me off and said straight out that I was not targeted. The second call was from a nicer lady that annotated my account that after spending $1000 and 8 weeks after that I should call back to see what they could do for me about applying bonus ID 6661 and 6664. TPG, I don’t know if I just blew an inquiry and waisted my time or if this is going to give me the 125,000 that I am after. TPG got his referral cause I used his link. I may have gotten screwed.

  • swordfish

Applied for my card last week and received it today. Called the rep and was transferred to the MR department. Asked about 6661 and rep put me on hold for about 5 min. Came back and said I will be getting 75K as long as I spend $1000 in 3 months. Notated my account and asked me to call back after I hit the limit to get the points.

  • Kris

This took a couple phone calls but I finally bumped the bonus. My first call on 8/23, one day after activating my card, the rep immediately shut me down on 6661. I called back today, and the second rep told me to call the Membership Rewards program directly. She gave me that number, 800-297-3276, and the rep there heard me out, and put me on hold to investigate. She actually told me that my current offer was for 25k points after spending 1k in 3 months, whereas the link I applied through actually said 15k points, so that was a pleasant surprise. After putting me on old, she told me ID 6661 was only for customers with no previous Amex cards. She said I was ineligible because I had a Delta Amex and an SPG Amex. I said that I was only an additional cardholder on my mom’s Delta Amex, and that I’d gotten the SPG Amex AFTER my Gold card. She put me on hold again, then came back and said I could have 6661 for 75k points, but I’d need to call back in 6-8 weeks after getting my initial points. Hurrah!

  • Dante

Called back a few hours later, got another rep and was given 6661. The weird thing was he said that the first rep had already given it to me, which she basically said she had not. Anyway, he says it is noted on my account and I will get. I called another day and asked about the 10,000 mile additional card thing and the rep didnt even look it up–said you have to be targeted. Def. cracking down. I dont think I will even try 6664.

  • Cgriffiths

The first representative I talked to said that I couldn’t get any points as I’m a current American Express cardholder. The second told me I had to meet the spend and that I had to call again and that they would then see if I could get the 75,000 points even though they doubted it because I’m already a current American Express cardmember. At this point, I don’t even know if I will get the 15,000 points. I hope I get something out of this new card:(

Called today and easily got 6661 applied. I was unable to stack 6664. 75k is still pretty darn good for basically no cost. Thanks again TPG!

Just called today to add on 6664 code and was told it would be noted on my account but whether it went through was doubtful. The CSR mentioned that the system would only allow one to go through even though the account has both 6661 and 6664 noted. He then went on to say that even though you read on the internet that people are getting multiple bonuses, it isn’t really happening.
    We’ll see I guess.

I’m not trying to be a wet blanket, but I think a lot of persons who already had Amex accounts before applying are going to be in for a rude awakening 6-8 weeks after the fact. It wouldn’t be the first time a financial service told people what ever they wanted to hear and didn’t live up to perceived promise. It reminds me of the cartoon character saying, “I’ll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today”. The csr responses are now on auto pilot if you won’t hang up.

    TPG,

The link for this card is not working anymore!!

It works- you just need to sign out of your amex account or use a new browser

Called back to try and also apply 6664 but another representative told me that I needed to have applied through the mail.

i called in as an account manager for my wife’s new GOLD card:
had to pick 6661 or 6664 NOT both; of course I had to pick 6661

They denied me on my gold and platinum cards for 5721 although on the day i called in i was told i was eligible and the lady took down 4 AUs on both cards and said I cud add on one more to platinum for 45 dollars with 5 users.

the renege process is leaving me a very sour taste

Activated my card today and it took 3 calls to get 6661 applied. I didn’t try for any other bonuses. Thanks TPG!

  • Amsheehy

Got the 75,000 ponta just now, but she said no on the other offer. She said it was one or the other. Will try again tomorrow.

I called for the Premier Rewards card as soon as I hung up the phone from calling for my Platinum cards(called 1-800-297-3276):
A girl name Lashauna?? answered. I stated “I just activated my Premier Rewards AMEX gold card and I wanted to ensure that the bonus code I expected was applied to my account.” Lashauna said “what was the bonus code?” I stated “6661″. She said “I don’t see that code attached to your card” I said “well I singed up for the card just for those bonus miles, am I not going to get the 75,000 bonus mile as I expected? If so I might have to cancel the card.” She said “hold on, I see the code it’s at the very end of the list” (she said over 100+ codes she had to look through). She also stated that “if you don’t see the points after the $1000 spend within 3 months the call back and tell the agent the following, The bonus code is from July 1, 2011 and it’s the last one in the list of the ACTIVE OFFERS.” She also stated “if they give you an problems with that code there is another one you can use” I was of course curious and stated “which one is that?” She said “there is an offer that just started for PR Gold cards issued after 8/22. The code for that is 6939 which is also 75,000 points for new PR Gold cards.” I stated “thanks a bunch, have a wonderful night.”

Both Customer Service Agents where really helpful and nice. Just wanted to share my experience as a newbie to this FREE points game. Thanks to this Blog for a couple of free flights!!!

I got a targeted Premier Rewards Gold card offer for 50K bonus after $1,000 spend in 3 months.
Bonus code was 6668. This is my first AMEX card.

Can I get the 10K per new card offer on top of that.
Can I get the higher 75K offer by calling using code 6661

  • PC

Has anyone had success to add 6661 or 6664 in the last couple of days? When I called customer service tonight (8/31),they said the promotion I signed up gives only 15K. So they cannot apply 6661. For those who have been successful, please advise on what you tell the customer service rep. They asked whether I received a letter or invitation. Thank you.

I called twice today and was unable to get 6661 or 6664 applied. I was told 6661 is only available for new AmEx members. Even though my Gold Premier Rewards card is new I’ve had other AmEx’s for several years.

    Questions.

I just became an FIA card services / Blue cash card holder three months ago. Would I be able to apply for the Gold and other AMEX cards and still get the bonuses? How many months qualifies as a new member?

  • Reid

When I called Amex from my blue cash card they said to call Amex at 877-621-2639 . I gave the 6661 code. They said this has to be applied for on line via
    americanexpress.com/applyprg.
When I went there it asked for a 14 digit offer code.
How did get get this Thanks,

  • PJ

6939 is the code to ask MR department for the bump from 10K to 75K 8 weeks after you hit the 1K spend , might not come in automatically until you wake them up ” where is my bump? ” they will MANUALLY add 65 K to your account …sounds weird to me

  • Jrd23

Activated the card today. They denied all of the bonus codes: 6661, 6664, 6939. I was only getting the 15K MR. I have a AMEX Blue card I use extensively for business (like 30K/month spending). I said if I could not get the 75K bump, I’m cancelling both. They denied. So I cancelled both cards. I’ll switch to my AARP Visa at 5% CB until Amex gets it right.

  • Gtonthebus

Just called to confirm 6661 and got the “it’s NOTATED” on my account, but I need to have been “TARGETED” to actually get the points. Ditto for 6664 and 6939. I’m not optimistic this will actually take once I’ve hit my spend mark. But I sure will keep trying once I have. If there’s one thing this site has taught me, it is to keep trying till you get to yes!

I opened my account on 8/22. I didn’t activate it until 9/2 because I was out of town. While activating it she told me my sign up bonus was 15,000 points. I asked if I could receive the 75,000 point signup bonus from code 6661. She asked where I heard about it, and I told her a friend told me. She said that I wasn’t targeted so I couldn’t get it. I asked about 6664, and she said I wasn’t targeted for that either. I thanked her, hung up, and called again. I said I just activated my card and that wanted to confirm that I would get the 75,000 bonus point sign up. The CSR asked for the code, and I gave him 6661. He said I wasn’t targeted, but that I would get 25,000 points after $1000 spend in 3 months. I was disappointed, but was glad I got the unexpected bump from 15,000 to 25,000 points. I gave up for the night.

After being out of town for the weekend, I called back tonight (9/5), and asked about the 75,000 point signup bonus. She asked for a code, and I gave her 6939 from David Luke’s post above, since 6661 hadn’t worked before. She had trouble finding it, and asked if I had another code, so I gave her 6661. She found that one, and asked when I had signed up for the card – in July or August. I told her I couldn’t remember exactly (because I couldn’t at the time), but that I had gotten it a few weeks ago, but had been out of town so I hadn’t activated it until 3 days ago. She said 6661 would work and the points would be added 6-8 weeks after I met the spend requirement. I asked her to note my account, and she started to. She asked if I saw a P-O-I-D (I think that’s what she called it) number, and I told her I didn’t. She said that was fine. I confirmed that she had noted my account, and that I needed to meet the spend requirement by 11/22, and that I should call back 6-8 weeks after I met the spend requirement to make sure the points posted. Hopefully, it all works.

I thought I was out of luck because I had waited too long, but the moral of the story (like everyone is saying) is to keep calling back. Hopefully, you’ll get that right CSR to make it happen.

Thanks David Luke for your detailed experience. Even though the extra 6939 code didn’t work for me, it was what encouraged me to call a 3rd time 3 days later to see if I could get the 75,000 bonus.

Thanks TPG for the great blog. Wonderful info on here.

Got the PRG Card today and called up Amex to notate my account with Bonus ID 6661. It worked fine. Rep said I can either add 6661 or 6664. So went for 6661 obviously. Will try calling them up again in a couple of days to see if i can get 6664 added as well. Thanks for the info TPG.

About a week after this I called and they said they would note 6661 on my account. I noticed today that I got the 15000 point bonus and then another 10,000 point bonus for $1,000 within 3 months. Looks like I’m just getting 25,000 miles.

  • Joshb13

PG whats the bonus code for 15 transactions in 3 months? Thanks for the help.

  • http://twitter.com/catandnick Cat and Nick

    Didn’t work. I wasn’t “targeted” for this offer…bummer.

  • Michael

Im told they no longer do this anymore and have to open “cases” up to give people the points.
