Some Technical Difficulties

Last month I upgraded my web host and as a result, my email servers experienced an outage. For the past month, many of you have emailed me and I did not receive it due to this error, so I just discovered several hundred unread emails tonight. I am working diligently to respond to each and every one, but please understand that it was not my intention to ignore you!

Also, many of you have complained about random layout issues. For some reason certain browsers, like Chrome, trigger the site to display in my special Ipad format which I installed a couple months ago. Also, some Ipad users have had issues with certain posts with javascript ads displaying correctly. I am going to disable this feature until a workaround is found, so I apologize in advance to anyone who liked the Ipad format.

If you have any other recommendations about the site or need to email me about another issue, please do so here. I promise you won’t be ignored, though it may take me a day or so to respond!

    I use Chrome exclusively and never experienced an issue. Keep up the great work. Cheers.

    The problem seemed random to me. I mainly use firefox. On some days, the site is accessible but displayed as blank page. On other days (e.g. two days ago), the main page was fine but the Top deals page was blank.

    I’ve experienced the Ad issue on ipad sometimes… doesn’t happen every time but does annoy me a little when it happens. Even an option to switch to ‘normal’ layout/view would be ok if you want to retain ads.

    I use Chrome and get the random layout (which now makes sense that it should be the ipad version) probably 25% of the time. It’s usually when I click on to read the comments. I then just open Safari and it’s fixed. Google Chrome gives me issues once in a while but I continue to use it bc it’s so good when it doesn’t give me problems. Good luck!

    i liked the ipad version, but it was buggy.

    visually it was nice

    If an ad appeared on a post the iPad browser would render the add full-screen and there was no way to dismiss it. Eventually I discovered if I stayed on that page but just hit ‘reload’ the ad would go away leaving the page of content properly formatted. Bothersome but the work-around was trivial.

    If you’re fielding formatting complaints, I do have another. :)

    Most blogging software allows you to enter a two or three sentence summary which is displayed followed by a “Read more” link to the rest of the post. For the really long posts you do with all of the great pictures of Tokyo it would be easier to navigate the site if you moved the bulk of the post into the main body, if your blog editor allows it.
