United Domestic Flight Certificates on Sale for $280 at Noon

Today’s Daily Getaway installment is an offer to buy United domestic flight certificates for $280. Considering domestic roundtrips have been skyrocketing lately, this seems like a decent deal, however there are only a measly 20 of them for sale and you don’t earn miles on these trips. I suspect they will be snatched up instantly at 12:00 EST, but if you have time it may pay off to try your luck and keep refreshing – often times you can snag one a couple minutes later when someone decides they don’t want to purchase it (or their credit card isn’t accepted). That’s how I won my 15,000 Hertz points – just as I was about to give up, they magically showed up as available and I quickly checked out and paid with my American Express Platinum card, which got me 10% off the purchase – as all Amex cards do with this promotion.

Has anyone figured out which fare bucket these book into? Without knowing that, you are buying a pig in a poke. Imagine if these have to go into L or K?

I got one! This will save me, at the very least, $100 when flying out of my small local airport!

BTW, this page is not loading in Firefox or IE. I had to use Safari to load it and leave this comment.

Wow, believe it or not posting my comment seems to have fixed the problem with the article not loading correctly

I tried to get on of these with no luck. Literally, after refreshing every second, at the top of the hour the 20 tickets went from “BUY” to “in someone else’s cart”. Kept refreshing hoping one would fall out of someone else’s cart…with no luck.

I’m wondering if there were thousands trying to get in on this?

    Oh Well, Bald Army Guy

@TJCABQ I’m sure there were thousands of people trying to get this. I felt extremely lucky when it took me to the payment page because there were only 20 of these and 150 of the Wyndham offer last week that I missed out on in a split second.

I had a predicament with United (something with my account). I was treated badly by the CSRs so a supervisor offered me 7K bonus miles or $100 e-voucher or 10% e-discount. I can choose in 30 days. How great for United!
