I’m not sure why, but is pricing domestic award tickets at 5,000 miles less than usual. Coach roundtrips at the lowest level are now 20,000 miles vs 25,000 and first class 40,000 vs 45,000. From time to time Delta does run reduced priced awards, like with their recent Valentine’s day promotion, so I don’t think this is a mistake.

In any case, if you have any domestic awards to book, I’d suggest doing it today!

To find “low” Delta awards, I recommend using the calendar to find dates that are shaded in green. While this method isn’t foolproof, it will generally give you a sense of when you can get the cheapest awards, even if they require connections. I booked a 25k award trip from MSP-MIA a few weeks ago. Does Delta every “price-match” something like this?

  • Howie

Thank you; rebooked an award today and my SM balance just went up 5k per seat!

  • William

Do award tickets also have a 24 hour cancellation policy?

  • gpapadop

OMG! Green color AND pricing at the lower level when you get done with it AND @20k!!!, clearly the end of the world is here, this can’t be happening…I think DL top mgt wanted to push through a 5k increase and the wonderful IT folks at DL managed to have that as a negative 5k:-)

    looks like this is dead!

  • The Points Guy

It was good while it lasted! :-)

William- award tickets do not, though if you cancel right away you may get a lenient agent. Fee to cancel award tickets on Delta is $150 unless you are a Platinum or Diamond medallion.

  • The Points Guy

@Eli- no pricematching, but they will let you reticket for $150- definitely not worth it to save only 5,000 miles.

So, the first time I don’t read TPG for a whole day and I already lost out!
