10% Discount on American Airlines Gift Certificates at Costco

It was reported on Flyertalk that some Costco locations have begun selling American Airlines gift certificates at a 10% discount ($269.99 for a $300 certificate). So far, people have only confirmed seeing them in a handful of stores, but my gut tells me if some stores have them, others may start carrying them soon (or people just haven’t found them yet in other stores).

I’m not advocating a rush to Costco, but on your next visit, if you could confirm whether they have them and comment below, that would be great. 10% off airfare is a great deal, considering fares have been skyrocketing recently. Every dollar saved counts!

    Just returned from Costco in Winston-Salem, NC and I can confirm that they do NOT have the AA certs.

    While not costco or perhaps not giftable, AA giftcards have been available at plasticjungle.com for 9% off their face value.

    It is available in NYC’s FDR Drive Costco at 116th. St….

    A question will be how you use these gift cards. Ideally, their account numbers can be entered in the AA website just like credit card numbers. If you have to phone in and pay a fee to use them, their value is greatly diminished.

    I wonder if Amex Plat holders with AA chosen as their airline would see up to $200 of the cost credited back?

    If you cull through Flyertalk, you will conclude they are only available in certain stores in the following markets so far: Los Angeles, San Francisco (bay area), Washington, DC. They are not certificates, but actual plastic gift cards.

    Available in the SEA area. Picked 8 up at the Issaquah Costco.

    Seattle has 9.5% sales tax, hmmmm…..not much after tax savings……maybe if one lived in one of the five states without sales tax it would be more worthwhile.

    I bought my AA certs. from AA website and was reimbursed on my Plat.

    Saw the exact deal 12/11/11 at Costco’s store in Chicago (Lincoln Park location).

    Pentagon City Costco in Arlington, VA (near Regan National Airport) does have them as of 1/2/12.

    Costco in NYC (117th St) definitely has them.

    I called American Airlines three different times and spoke with different people in different departments and they could not tell me if thy honored gift cards bought at alltimesaleoff.com. They said they never heard of them and it was too good to be true, otherwise, very risky.
