I’m not sure if this is a temporary change (I hope) but American Express has decreased their sign-up bonus on the Platinum card from 50,000 to 25,000 points. It doesn’t look like the ads have changed yet, so many still say 50,000, but when you click through it will only show 25,000. I will get more clarity on this from my Amex/ad reps in the morning.
This just goes to show that you need to act quickly when there are good deals, because they never last forever. I’m hopeful 50k (or more) will come back for the Platinum card, since it’s an all-around amazing card, but you never know. While 25,000 isn’t nearly as good as 50,000, it’s still a decent deal considering how many benefits come along with the Platinum card. For a frequent traveler, the card can pay for itself many times over.
Otherwise, if you haven’t gotten in on the 100,000 mile Chase British Airways Visa, I recommend doing that sooner than later. The projected end date is May 6, 2011, but it can be pulled at any time. Click here to check out my original post on the deal and the extensive Q&A in the comment section.
