Up to 4,000 United Miles for Netflix Subscription

As I posted about last week, Netflix runs some pretty generous sign-up bonuses and they generally don’t require contracts. That means, you can pay $8 for one month of service, get the bonus, and then cancel. Unlike some other purchases that I make just for miles (like buying cell phone screen wipes and wine openers for the US Airways Grand Slam Promotion), I actually use Netflix and find the service fast and reliable.

This offer, which gives 4,000 United miles for signing up for Netflix if you have a United credit card (2,000 if you don’t have a United card), is pretty fantastic. Just like with the less lucrative 2,500 mile AA Netflix offer, if you already have Netflix, just use a new address and credit card and you should be fine. That is, unless you’ve signed up for a Mileage plus bonus in the past, in which case you probably won’t get the miles.

If you don’t have a United Mileageplus Visa, you can sign up for one here and get 25,000 miles after first purchase and an addition 5,000 for adding another user. Additionally, the $60 annual fee is waived for the first year and you’ll get a $50 statement credit after your first purchase, a $25 travel certificate, and an upgrade certificate. However, since some people have been targeted to get 50,000 miles for signing up for a Mileageplus Visa, search your email before you sign up for this one.

Offer Terms and Conditions:
Offer is valid to new Netflix members only. Each Mileage Plus number is eligible for only one Mileage Plus mileage award. Current and previous Netflix members and their households are ineligible. Cannot be combined with any other offer, including a free trial. Purchase or redemption of Netflix gift subscription is not eligible to earn miles. Mileage Plus miles will be awarded for a new paid Netflix membership linked directly from this page. Valid payment method and a Mileage Plus number required. Please allow 8-10 weeks for mileage to post to your Mileage Plus account. A Netflix membership is a month-to-month subscription that you can cancel at any time. Click the “Your Account” link at the top of any page on the Netflix website for cancellation instructions. No refunds or credits for partial monthly subscription periods. The number of DVDs out at a time varies by plan. For example, the 1 DVD out-at-a-time (Unlimited) plan is $9.99 plus applicable tax. An additional monthly fee applies for Blu-ray access. Certain titles are available to watch instantly. Members may watch instantly only within the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. A device that streams from Netflix (manufactured and sold separately) and a broadband Internet connection are required to watch instantly on your TV. Xbox LIVE Gold membership is required to watch instantly via the Xbox 360. See www.netflix.com/TermsOfUse for complete terms and conditions of the Netflix service. (c) 2010 Netflix Inc.

Is it OK to have the same billing address?

With yesterday’s news that you can start combining United and Continental accounts, any idea if Continental card holders are eligible? (Probably not, but just askin’ if anyone’s checked)

  • Jessica

@Gerry… I’m thinking the same thing. If I sign up and get the United Miles, can I then transfer them to Continental once the program is merged?

  • The Points Guy

Gerry- it says only United, so I’d be very surprised if CO cards counted. Why don’t you get a United card too? The more miles the merrier :-)

Jessica- you can transfer them today- no need to wait until the programs merge http://thepointsguy.com/2011/03/major-enhancement-united-and-continental-miles-and-status-now-combineable/

  • Jessica

If I decide to cancel the account, I should wait until the miles post, correct? How long does that usually take?

  • The Points Guy

I opened up a Netflix account with the AA promo last week and the miles already posted. Once you pay for a month of service and the miles post, you should be fine.

  • Gerry

@TPG: United card is approved but hasn’t arrived yet. Hopefully it will before this expires. Better still, this will be the 1st purchase that will qualify for the 25K miles. But didn’t want to risk missing it and w/ the merge wondered if CO might be just as good.

    Thanks for posting this.

QUESTION: When you click on the link, you come to UA site page where you enter your FF# and click “Start Now” – that takes you to a Netflix page which acknowledges that you are a Mileage Plus member and states miles will post in 8-12 weeks.

HOWEVER, the ONLY OPTION there is to sign up for the free trial. But the terms of the free trial trial clearly state that it cannot be combined with any other offer. SO HOW DO YOU PROCEED without jeopardizing the 4000 miles offer?

    Thanks.

@John- have you signed up for another Netflix account on your computer? Netflix installs cookies so it will send you to the Free Trial page. I recommend using a different computer/browser/clearing your cookies.

  • John

Thanks for the reply. When you (or anyone else on this page) follow the link above, what do you see when you reach the Netflix site?

My cookies are automatically deleted when I close Firefox. I even clear Flash Cookies (read up on it folks!) using a FF extension. I have never signed up for Netflix before.

I don’t think this link works anymore– the UA site is now offering 1k miles for new netflix signups, 2k total if you have the UA card.

  • Lesly

I did this today with no problem!

    Hi,
Do you know when does this deal expire?

Unfortunately not working anymore. I called Netflix and they said not valid for people who previously had accounts. I used a different e-mail address and credit card number. I guess they are guessing it is the same person from the name and address.

  • Mae

Actually it just worked for me still. I signed up my husband who has had a previous netflix account and his miles posted in 2 weeks.

Is the United offer for new Netflix subscribers still valid? Your link puts me onto an expired page and my United search comes up with nothing. Any other airlines offering miles for a new subscription?
