I’m a big fan of online discounter Ruelala.com. They often heavily discount top brands as well as travel packages, including their current “Trips of a Lifetime” offering, which seems like a good deal for anyone who wants to buy a vacation package. These packages include pretty much everything but flights, so if you redeem some miles you could have a pretty incredible vacation on the cheap.

The site is invite only, but you can sign up for free using my invitation link. Even if you don’t want to buy this trip now, I recommend signing up – I’ve gotten tons of discounts on apparel and luggage.

Where is e disclosure stating you get credit when we sign up?

  • The Points Guy

Andrew- it’s free to sign up so a disclosure isn’t necessary

Tell your friend in Madrid to give us some extra tapas after signing up for this:-) We will try to track down his restaurant!

  • The Points Guy

Tell them Jorge and Lori sent you- you’ll get hooked up!

How do you calculate the value of these deals? What’s your process?

  • The Points Guy

Michael- its different for everyone. For a lot of people, just having something planned out is valuable since planning a vacation to a new country can be extremely time consuming.
I don’t personally book packages because Trip planning is fun for me and I leverage a huge cache of points and miles and a network of global friends to do it on the cheap.

In any case- these packages may not be for everyone, but they seemed like a good deal to me.

EBay to buy GSI Commerce for $2.4 billion
    On Monday March 28, 2011, 10:43 am

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — EBay has agreed to buy GSI Commerce, a digital marketing and e-commerce company, for $2.4 billion.

Ebay Inc. says the acquisition will bolster its capacity to connect buyers and sellers around the world.

The online marketplace operator has agreed to pay $29.25 per share, a 51 percent premium to GSI’s closing stock price on Friday. GSI shares rose 52 percent to $29.50 in morning trading.

As part of the deal, eBay plans to sell GSI’s licensed sports merchandise business and 70 percent of shopping sites RueLaLa.com and ShopRunner.com.

EBay hopes to complete the deal in the third quarter. It says its 2011 net income per share will be 30 cents to 34 cents lower than its earlier outlook. In January, it had forecast earnings of $1.56 to $1.61 per share. Its shares fell 3 percent to $30.75.
