Netflix is offering 2,500 miles for customers who sign up through this link.

Technically, this is for new customers, but as long as you use a different address, email, and credit card, I don’t know how they’d possibly be able to trace duplicate accounts since this promotion doesn’t require a social security number.

The $7.95 membership is online only, so you don’t even have to worry about getting DVDs sent to you. You simply pay the first month and cancel before the next month bills. There is nothing in the T&C stating you need to be a member for a certain amount of time.

Offer Terms and Conditions:
Offer is valid to new Netflix members only, and only one American Airlines AAdvantage mileage award will be awarded per AAdvantage number. Current and previous Netflix members and their households are ineligible. Cannot be combined with any other offer, including a free trial. Purchase or redemption of Netflix gift subscription(s) is not eligible to earn miles. AAdvantage miles will be awarded for a new paid Netflix membership only and require linking directly from this page. Valid payment method and a valid AAdvantage number required. Please allow 8-10 weeks for mileage postings. A Netflix membership is a month-to-month subscription that you can cancel at any time. Click the “Your Account” button for cancellation instructions. No refunds or credits for partial monthly subscription periods. The number of DVDs out at a time varies by plan. Our most popular plan, 3 DVDs out at-a-time, is $16.99 a month plus applicable tax. Not all DVD titles are available to watch instantly. One business day delivery based on more than 95% of our subscribers being within one-day postal delivery zones. See for full terms and conditions of the Netflix service, including shipping and delivery details. © 2011 Netflix Inc.

Do you think this is worthwhile even if you already have a Netflix account and have no need for another?
$8 for 2,5000 miles seems like a pretty good deal!

  • The Points Guy

$8 for 2,500 AA miles is amazing- Go for it!

  • pixel girl

    Done. Thanks, PG!

Now contemplating an additional sign up for the husband… :)

  • The Points Guy

Its a no brainer! Do it for your mom, dad, grandmom and dog too!

  • Gerry

Any sense of how quickly we can cancel? I just signed up, too. Next, the dog. ;)

  • Deb

Maybe this is a daft question, but it says in the terms that it is not combinable with any other offers (including a free trial month). When I try to sign up, it automatically puts into a free trial month. So that doesn’t seem to make sense to me… anyone else experiencing the same thing?

  • The Points Guy

Gerry- I’d cancel after you see the first month membership billed to your credit card.

Deb- are you clicking through this link

When I signed up, a free trial wasn’t an option.

Thanks for the response. I tried the link again, and it still kicks me into a free month trial. It could be because I’m in Canada, even though we have netflix up here, too. Maybe later I’ll try clearing cookies and trying again.
I appreciate the follow up though!

Thanks for the article. I signed up on the 2nd, and miles posted today. Can I do it again with a different address?

  • The Points Guy

Medman- might as well try! You can also possibly create a new AAdvantage account and get the miles and then have AA merge the accounts. I haven’t done this, but have heard others have had success doing so. Seems like its worth a shot since its only $8.

I signed up for Netflix about a month before this deal was announced so I ignored it. I did not think about creating a separate account to get the 2,500 miles. Brilliant!

Thank you for posting this! I’m loving your site. Much, much better than Travel Hacking Cartel. May have to sign up for membership soon. Very thorough articles and deal postings, along with pictures. Doesn’t hurt that you’re a fan of my home country, Spain, either. Thanks Brian.

An update if anyone is still using this promotion — Netflix does cross-reference on addresses. I used an old address, and the points never posted. I called in to see what was up, and they said there was still an open account at that address (whoever lives there now), so it didn’t count for the promotion.

On the bright side, the rep was super friendly, and had no problem refunding my $7.99.

So if you use this promotion, try to come up with an address that doesn’t have an active account!

FYI: I signed up with Netflix using the link listed on this page. After about one week, 1500 miles is posted to my AA account today. I do not know if the offer is only good for 1500 miles not, or 1000 miles would be posted later on.

  • James Haim

I’m wondering how soon my mileage will be posted on my AAdvantage cards after spending my $1,500. I am hoping to travel overseas in August. Thank You!

  • Steve K

Now it’s 3,000 miles for new members, and here is the link (working as of 6/22/11):

Otherwise, google the following text (no quotes), and scroll to your desired result: american airlines 3000

PS It took about a week for my 3K to post.

  • Andrew Nelson

I am existing but it didn’t even ask for my mailing address and I used a different card and email so I dont see how this will be an issue!

  • Vishal

I have an existing account. Will not it recognize my name if I try to open a new account just for the miles after canceling my current one?

  • Sean Buchanan

Just an update: I signed up for the Netflix service 2 weeks ago (7/4/11) with a different Email, Address and CC than my normal Netflix account. My 3K miles posted today (7/12/11). Thanks for the tip!

Did it post to the same AA account that you got your first netflix bonus miles?
