American and Vinesse Wine Club are offering 2,000 miles, free shipping and a steep discount on your first wine purchase – no contract required. The wine prices out to just $6.99 each for the first 6 bottles. You’ll also get 4 miles per dollar spent, so overall this deal is worth roughly 2,168 miles along with 6 bottles of decent vino for around $42.

I did this for the US Airways Grand Slam promotion and was moderately satisfied with the wines. Though nothing tastes as good as the wine on a near free first class international flight :-)

Some tips from my past experience:
1) Vinesse actually posts the miles pretty quickly – within 2 weeks for me. I recommend cancelling only once the miles post.
2) Vinesse will try to do everything in their power to make you stay on, including sending you free wine and putting your account on hold.
3) The customer service rep was so convincing, I actually ended up getting 3 more bottles of wine for free. I almost felt bad about this, but she gave me no choice! (And I’m a quasi-wino, so really, it was a win-win).
4) My account was put on hold for 4 months to let me “think” about it
5) I cancelled before my hold expired and again the rep tried convincing me to stay, but I firmly held my ground. Cancellation was processed immediately and I never received another charge.

Overall, even if you don’t like wine, this promotion is still cheaper than buying 2,000 miles from AA directly ($85). However, this promo is perfect if you do like wine (or like giving bottles of it as gifts) and you are organized enough to cancel the membership before you are billed for more shipments.

No obligation, ever, period. Cancel anytime, really.

You can cancel your membership at any time, with no further obligation whatsoever. We’re so sure you will fall in love with our wines and the convenience of wine deliveries at home that you will stay on as happy members. But if for any reason you need to cancel, simply call us at 1-800-823-5527. It’s as simple as that.

Please note that we can only ship orders containing wine to AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, SD, TN, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY. Non-wine orders may be shipped into any state. Due to state alcohol regulations, items, in some instances, may not be given away for “free”. Although an offer may be positioned that you are receiving a free gift and incentive, you are in fact receiving the wine and gift at an overall discounted price.

Right reco on cancelling after points here. I canceled as soon as I signed up (didn’t realize I was going to be billed for anything) and have since gotten 200 something miles, a charge on my AmEx I am disputing and a package of 6 bottles of wine I refused.

  • Kyle

This is good, but you can do the same offer with Alaska Airlines and receive 2,960 miles for the same price….Miles are already posted in my account. The perfect wedding gift!

I got a slightly better offer with United (2794 miles):

  • Tao

I got an email right after I signed up. It says that the second shipment will be on regular club schedule. I couldn’t find their regular club schedule on the website.

What if they ship the second shipment in the first month of your membership (on a regular club schedule?).

  • The Points Guy

@Tao- don’t worry, it doesn’t ship for a couple weeks. However, I would call them in a couple days after your initial order has time to process and ask them to hold your second order until you taste your first. Once you are officially unsatisfied with your purchase (ie your bonus points post), simply cancel the second order.

  • Richard

    1. they do ship to PA (not mentioned anywhere on the website). I figured what the heck and ordered and the wine did show up (shipped from NY). PA has the most whacked out w&s laws but right now, i guess shipping in wine is allowed (there are a number of court cases being litigated at various levels on this right now).

    2. you will immed. get the 200-some miles (5/$) for the intro shipment, the 2k enrollment bonus will take a few weeks. if you’re worried about canceling before you get the bonus; call the 800 # (they don’t do email) and ask that your “first member shipment” be put on hold because you’ll be out of town and that should be enough time for the bonus to post.

    3. wine is good & customer service is outstanding. if you like playing the lottery on wine, this isn’t a bad deal. If you want to play it for miles duh!, sign up your wife, dog, cat and kids…. :-)

Does anyone know if you have previously signed up for a Vinesse offer through another frequent flyer program if you are entitled to another bonus through this program? I previously signed up for the Delta 5,000 mile offer for both me and my wife approx. 1 year ago and we each got a 5,000 mile bonus. We cancelled promptly, despite their best efforts to keep us (by the way, the wine is very good). We each signed up again 2 months ago, and I got the 5,000 mile bonus and my wife was rejected because she had already received a bonus. Figure that one out.

It has now been 5 weeks, 4 phone calls and I still have not rcvd my points.

At first they said my miles posted on the 19th of April. The last call said they sent the miles to AA the date I ordered. I have spoke with Angelina twice and Jessica twice.

They keep blaming it on AA for not giving me my miles, to which a call to AA said they have no miles pending for me from Vinesse.

I do not reccomend doing this deal.

  • Tao

@shawn, I haven’t received my miles either. I signed up about 5 weeks ago as well.

    I should probably call them.

  • Marty

No miles here either. Been about 5 weeks…

  • BEN

  • Ken

Signed up 3/23, no miles as of 5/9.

  • Marty

I called and they said they would have points person email me and let me know what happened. Nothing. No emails, no anything.

What a shame… I’m almost tempted to just return the entire case as I just wanted the points. This is ridiculous…

  • ben

just cancelled…………….. tired of dealing with them…………….no points posted………….thankful that the wine was good………hate to get semi-scammed on anything…………..

  • Tao

They kept saying that miles had been submitted to AA. Every time I called, they immediately pointed out that I signed up through AA promotion, which made me think that maybe they did submit the miles. But why it never showed up in our AA account, I don’t know.

  • Marty

I filled out a Better Business Bureau complaint. Got email on Friday that they received my complaint. If you search for Vinesse and BBB, you will see other complaints and the form to fill it out.

@Ben — they said the same thing to me on 3 different calls. First call they said to wait and call back. Second call they said to wait but that they would have the rewards person email me (never received email). Third call, woman said that she would call me back on 5/20 as 5/19 was their next upload date and would call back on 5/20 to make sure everything went OK. Of course, no call back.

I am going to cancel anyway. Don’t see the point in keeping it active just in case the miles post. They are obviously going through an issue because they said it was posted on 4/18 but that American takes longer to post (yeah… sure…).

Either way, I filed the BBB complaint with them and hopefully they will square it out. If not, well, lesson learned and I’ll be more than happy to steer clear of them in the future.

  • AK

I got 168 miles today. Not 2,168, but 168. I’m going to be giving them a phone call.

  • AK

The best part is that on my AAdvantage statement, it shows I got the miles in April when I purchased the wine. HAH! Pageonce and Award Wallet say otherwise.

  • Ben

just got my 168 miles………….yippee yay whoooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! ………….i had completely forgotten about vinesse and its bs promises……….maybe my 2000 bonus miles will show up in 2014

Called to cancel after receiving my introductory shipment of wines today. Customer service rep: “Can I ask if there was a reason for your dissatisfaction?” Me: “I didn’t realize all of the wineries were going to be fake.” Rep: “Oh. Okay. Your account is cancelled and you won’t receive any more shipments. Thank you.” Don’t know what happened to the hard sell.
