Hertz just announced a pretty interesting promotion: through 1/31/11 bring in a reservation with a competitor and they will match the price- and give you a $50 gift certificate for a future rental. This is valid on weekly and weekend rentals at airport locations only. Many weekend rates at airports can be had for $50 or less, so this if you have a bunch of rentals coming up, you could really make out with this promotion. The things that I dislike about the promo are: 1) hope that they have rentals left since you can’t have an advance reservation 2) Have to go into the rental office (I love my Hertz #1 Gold status which lets me bypass the twilight zone aka rental counter) 3) This promo excludes Metro NY, Florida and Hawaii) in the month of December

Tip of the hat to TPG reader Sam for the heads up on this one!

Terms and Conditions: Price match cannot be reserved in advance; a hard copy of the competitor reservation must be provided at time of rental pickup.  Reservations made through auction sites such as Priceline or Hotwire do not qualify.  Price match applies to base rental rates of national competitors at participating U.S. Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands airport locations.  Offer applies only to competitive weekend and weekly rates relating to the same vehicle classes, pick-up locations and rental dates.  Offer limited to non-collection Economy through Luxury plus Minivan and SUV vehicle classes (Car Classes A-F, G, I, R, L, U and Q4).  Alternative Car Class of equal or greater value may be substituted. *National competitors are:  Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, National and Thrifty.  Tour, insurance replacement, pre-paid or affiliate rates do not qualify for this offer.   Offer is subject to vehicle availability, which cannot be guaranteed.  Offer is not available at locations in Florida, Hawaii and Metro NY Area for rentals in December 2010. Taxes, tax reimbursement, age differential charges, cost recovery fees and optional services, such as refueling, are not included.  Hertz age, driver and credit qualifications and weekend and weekly rate and return restrictions apply.  Offer has no cash value and cannot be combined with any other promotion or discount.  $50 coupon valid for one year and may only be used for a subsequent rental; all coupon terms apply.  Offer available for rental pickup through 1/31/11.
