One of the perks of having a Citi American AAdvantage card, is having the opportunity to redeem awards for reduced amounts of miles.
There are two tiers of discounts, down from the standard domestic saver mileage of 25,000 for coach and 50,000 for first (on 2 class cabins). In order to get the discount there needs to be “saver” (low) level awards available and you need to call and give the agent the code for the card that you have and city where you want to go (which can be found at using the link below). Because you have to book on the phone, there is a $20 booking fee (waived for Exec Plat), but it’s worth it to save 5,000+ AA miles.
For the premium cards (Citi Platinum, Citi Select and CitiBusiness cards):
17,500 miles for coach and 42,500 for first
For the standard cards (Citi Gold and Citi)
20,000 miles for coach and 45,000 for first
If you don’t already have an AA card, you can sign up for one with a 75,000 point sign up bonus- details here.
This list changes quarterly and can be found here.
